“Keeping on top of the pace of change in the US industry and developing relevant content offers for emerging verticals was, to an extent, a challenge, as was finding venues with the right mix of luxury and character for the larger networking events we are having this year. But those are the sorts of issues we encounter when planning all our events, and the type of problems that as a business, we are exceptionally good at solving.” Rasmus Sojmark, SBC Gaming Founder and CEO

betting industry. It’s great to have speakers of the calibre of Joe Asher (CEO, William Hill US), Sandra Morgan (Chairwoman, Nevada Gaming Commission), Richard Schwartz (President, Rush Street Gaming), Woodie Dixon (General Counsel & SVP, Pac-12), Walt Fales (SVP of Strategic Development, Caesars Entertainment Corporation) and Sheila Morago (Executive Director, Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association) sharing their knowledge of their market sectors.

I know that our US team is hugely excited to have Las Vegas oddsmaker Roxy Roxborough taking part in the Player Power panel, which also features ESPN’s David Purdum.

How have you ensured the event stays relevant to a rapidly changing US market?

We’ve invested in a bigger team in the US over the past 12 months, hiring some industry veterans who keep up to date with all the key developments on the ground through their extensive contact networks. Tey, along with the team on our SBC Americas industry news

website, have helped to ensure the agenda is current, relevant and forward looking.

What different challenges did you face in creating a sophomore event as opposed to the inaugural edition last year?

We certainly gave ourselves a lot to live up to with the success of the inaugural Betting on Sports America! Te buzz from that has been very helpful in terms of generating interest in the 2020 edition, but with so many returning delegates, the pressure has been on to create an event that is a clear progression from the first one.

Keeping on top of the pace of change in the US industry and developing relevant content offers for emerging verticals was, to an extent, a challenge, as was finding venues with the right mix of luxury and character for the larger networking events we are having this year. A number of new states have been legislating for sports betting. How applicable is it to remain in the same location?

New Jersey is the big success story of post- PASPA repeal sports betting, with the size of the market already approaching Nevada levels.

Big European operators, the main daily fantasy sports brands, the casino chains and even media companies have all entered the market here.

So at the minute, New Jersey is at the center of all the action and industry professionals from states where the markets are younger are keen to see how such impressive growth has been achieved. We’re definitely in the best location at the minute, but obviously it is something we’ll monitor for future editions.

What networking opportunities are available?

SBC events are rightly renowned for the quality of their hospitality and networking. Attendees can look forward to complimentary food and drink, and access to networking areas for business discussions on the show floor at Meadowlands. Additionally, we have exclusive evening networking parties lined up at upscale venues in New York and New Jersey, entrance to which are included with the conference pass.

Te parties are always great fun and very memorable, but a particular one to look out for is the Sports Betting Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Te Class of 2020 features five individuals who have played huge roles in the development of the sports betting industry in the US and we think delegates will be excited to meet them.
