GERMANY – A regular contributor to G3 for the last 15 years, it was incredibly sad to hear of the death of John Carroll on December 21, 2019. The Gaming Publishing team has
passed our condolences to John’s family and will remember John both as a professional, diligent consultant and PR specialist, but also as a friend and drinking partner at the host of international events around the world.
Establishing his PR business, Carroll Consulting, having cut his teeth in the cash handling sector in the UK, John visited every European gaming show, travelled to each of his clients and customers and spoke multiple languages to create an agency that uniquely served the specific needs of each individual gaming client.
Over the decade and a half of collaboration with Carroll Consulting, the success of John’s business was due to the dedication and professionalism that he brought to his role and the manner in which he dealt with client demands.
ICE London 2020 will be the first show since 2004 in which John has not joined the team for a pre- show drink or dinner, chat or catch-up. His absence from the show floor will be felt across the industry, but most acutely with the Gaming Publishing team.

Belgium
Te Belgian betting industry could face further advertising restrictions according to a report published by the Belgian Gaming Commission (BGC). Te report concludes that despite the recent efforts of the BGC to take action against gambling operators marketing themselves, sports fans are still exposed to a high degree of advertising.
Te study showed that advertising remains prevalent across all the different types of media associated with the Jupiler Pro League, the top division of Belgian football, particularly at stadiums. 14 of the 16 league clubs maintain advertising partnerships with betting companies and the logo of Unibet is present on every ticket sold for Jupiler Pro League matches as part of its sponsorship agreement. However, the study did praise the effect of advertising on preventing customers migrating to illegal markets.
