GLI’s Martin Britton GLI at the heart of sports betting with GLI-33

GLI was at G2E Las Vegas having released its landmark “GLI-33: Event Wagering Systems” standard

After nearly a year of effort, the draft version was distributed to the global community of regulators, industry suppliers, industry operators, and industry trade associations immediately following the repeal of PASPA

Te technical standard has been already adopted by several state and tribal regulators, including the Choctaw Gaming Commission of Choctaw Mississippi, the West Virginia Lottery and Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission of North Carolina. Indeed it was central to the launch of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians’ new sports book at the Pearl River Resort which became the first tribal sports book in the US to open in August.

GLI’s Director of Technical Compliance Chad Kornett said: “Great care was taken to create a standard that supports the most innovative sports wagering applications while also anchoring fundamental regulatory objectives. GLI collaborated directly with regulators, technology providers and operators to ensure the document represents the most highly developed standards and best practices in existence today.”

Although new to everywhere in the US apart from Las Vegas, sports betting is nothing new to GLI. Martin Britton, Managing Director of GLI Europe and Africa, said: “Sports betting is undoubtedly the buzz word at this year’s G2E Las Vegas. We

Metric detailing its unique heritage at the G2E show

Having taken a punt on the US market way back in 2012, Metric Gaming feels it is ideally positioned for the emerging sports betting market in the US

Six years ago, Metric set up a headquarters in Las Vegas, convinced there was at least a 50/50 chance of sports-betting being approved within 10 years. Will Harris, Commercial Manager said: “We feel that we are now uniquely placed to be a strong B2B partner to anyone looking to the US market due to our experience on both sides of the Atlantic. We have a US heritage, but have

drew on nearly 30 years of global sports/event wagering experience throughout markets in Australia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Canada by compiling and integrating sports wagering regulatory best practices from around the world. As with all of our standards, it is never a finished piece of work. GLI-33 is a “living document” that will continue to be refined as part of an ongoing process of gathering industry input.”

Mr Britton also highlighted the opening a second office in Austria as one of the main pieces of news coming from the European side of GLI’s business. Tis newest office will serve the needs of the rapidly expanding European gaming market. GLI Austria also operates offices in Graz, Austria and Krakow, Poland. Te company has recently appointed former Managing Director of BMM Testlabs in Europe Alexander Haberl who will work out of the GLI Netherlands/GLI Vienna offices. Te addition of the GLI Traiskirchen office, headed by Technical Manager, Christian Schlinger, is looking to strengthen GLI’s already strong European presence in the areas of iGaming, land- based testing and lottery certification, auditing, and IT security.

Te last year has seen GLI become accredited in new markets such as Cyprus and Czech and it is ready for the new regulations in Sweden that will see online gaming rolled out. Mr. Britton added: “We have the best people in place in all our offices to assist our clients and help them navigate new rules and regulations. Tis is an exciting time for all of us.”

been incredibly active in the much more developed European betting markets. We’ve had a long established deal with BetStars to provide their golf pricing feed package, which has now seen us enter New Jersey with them.”

Supreme Court’s ruling to suspend a federal ban on sports betting in New Jersey earlier this year, the so-called PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992). Since fantasy sports has a long-standing heritage in the US market, it is expected to be an important part of the gaming market going forward.

Metric and Scout Gaming will jointly develop new products with the ambition to coalesce sports-betting and fantasy sports games with Metric providing traditional sports betting products for Scout Gaming’s Betflex application.

Playtech’s Anthony Evans

Playtech looking to digitise US betting from the outset

Playtech was at G2E Las Vegas highlighting the benefits of the Playtech ONE, its unified, omni-channel sportsbook platform, that includes Self Service Betting Terminals (SSBTs)

Armed with its ONE technology, it believes the standing start for most states in the US means sports betting operators are in the enviable position of being able to digitise their player base from the off. Te SSBTs is fully integrated with the Playtech IMS player management system that maximises user experience by allowing customers to use a single account to access single wallet transactions online, across all channels and on all devices.

“SSBT integration was the final part of this process,” Anthony Evans, VP of Product Strategy at Playtech explained. “What is offered in digital can now be replicated in retail meaning US sports betting companies are in the position of being able to convert players to digital channels right from the start of their relationship with them.”

Some of the most recent innovations added to the platform include unique mobile authentication, the ability to cross-promote to retail and online customers, use of the same bonus engine and trading system, and the ability to place bets in retail and cashout online or on mobile outside of the retail environment.

Mr. Evans said: “We’ve done a lot of work behind the scenes to unite both the retail and digital platforms and integrate it with IMS. We’re interested in working both online and in retail in the US and we have all the technology needed to handle paper bets from SSBTs to till systems. Whilst sports betting is very much the entry point in the US, we’re confident that the state-by-state roll-out will also see us deploy other elements of our portfolio such as online casino, virtual games, live dealer and networked poker. We’re also pushing our IGS (Intelligent Gaming System) which is used by 90 per cent of UK casinos.”
