ROSEMONT, IL — The ASSEMBLY Show 2020 will be held virtually, October 27 and 28, 2020. The show will kick off with two workshops, “Design for Manufacture and Assem - bly (DFMA)” and “Lean Man ufac - turing and Manual Assembly.” According to John Sprovieri,

editor of ASSEMBLY Magazine, the workshops will be packed with infor- mation from leading subject matter experts who will show engineers how

drop by 14 percent on average by the end of the year. “The coronavirus pandemic has

led to a decline in revenues for a number of companies,” says Chris - toph Stoppok, head of components, mobility and systems, ZVEI. “That makes it all the more important for electronica to provide the industry with a platform this year, as usual, to generate renewed business momen- tum.”

Under the header “Back to

Business: electronica 2020,” the show focuses on driving sustainable progress through face-to-face discus- sions on site, interactive information transfer on screen and through net- working with the global electronics community. This year’s event includes four

conference subgroups: automotive, embedded platforms, medical elec- tronics, and wireless. Conference talks will be streamed digitally to allow the electronics community to participate from anywhere in the world, avoiding any travel restric- tions.

to analyze and reduce the cost of a company’s designs and discuss why manual assembly remains the most popular way to put together prod- ucts.

DFMA is a methodology for

identifying, quantifying and elimi- nating waste or inefficiency in a product design with the goal to cre- ate a product that is easy and inex- pensive to mass-produce. At least 85 percent of manufacturing costs are determined in the early stages of design. When engineers make informed design decisions during the concept stage, they can avoid costly corrections later. The manufacturing professionals in the audience will learn how to lower manufacturing costs through good design, discover

what features make a product easy and cost efficient to assemble, and find out how to design to facilitate automation. During the lean manufacturing

session, attendees will learn tips and tricks for creating efficient line lay- outs, improving operation, error- proofing the process, and preventing work-related injuries. The panelists will discuss why designing, equip- ping and managing a largely manual assembly process requires a different skillset than a highly automated one. According to a recent capital

equipment spending survey, 87 per- cent of factories employ at least some manual operations to assemble their products. That figure has remained constant for more than two decades.

Through the virtual platform,

engineers and assembly manufactur- ing professionals will have access to interactive exhibits and guided tours of the exhibit hall featuring the lat- est machines and technology in assembly manufacturing. Leading up to the event is a

series of webinars. “We look forward to hearing from Sudhi Bangalore, Chris Sorensen and Arthur Byrne, who will provide insight on how busi- ness leaders use digital transforma- tion, innovation for leaders and lean principles,” says Sprovieri. Contact: BNP Media, 2401 W
