electronica 2020 to be Held Amid Pandemic Concerns

MUNICH, GERMANY — In accor- dance with the German govern- ment’s regulations regarding trade shows and other large events, elec- tronica 2020 will be held in Munich November 10 to 13. Messe München, the trade

show’s organizer, has outlined a safe- ty and hygiene plan designed to keep all visitors healthy during the show.

The scheme has three basic compo- nents: social distancing, hygiene, and the traceability of all participants. There is a 5 ft (1.5m) general distanc- ing requirement between persons and masks are mandatory. The traceability of all visitors is enabled by the registration process and by scanning at the entrance and exits. For those who wish to keep

Printed Electronics USA Returns to Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CA — IDTechEx’s Printed Electronics USA is scheduled to return to the Santa Clara, California, convention center from November 18 to 19. The show is part of an eight-segment series of events that covers 3D printing, EVs, energy storage, graphene, IoT applications, sensors, and wearables, in addition to printed electronics. Each event includes a full two-day executive con- ference and share a common exhibi- tion.

Printed Electronics focuses on

the commercialization of the technol- ogy, covering broadly organic, inor- ganic, thin film, and flexible nan- otechnologies. Some of the world’s largest end user companies present on their needs and experience with printed electronics, and many are in attendance to learn how to use these new technologies in their products. This year, printed electronics

presentations will be given by repre- sentatives from Phillips 66, Kent Displays and ENJET, while co-locat- ed conferences include speakers from

Raytheon, Cisco, the University of San Francisco, and the Berkely Sensor and Actuator Center. A highlight of the exhibition is

the IDTechEx Launchpad, where emerging and innovative products from early stage companies are demonstrated live. Twelve compa- nies are selected, giving them an opportunity to showcase their prod- ucts.

Participants include startups,

universities, new spin-offs, research labs, and government labs, who gath- er to demo working prototypes that display advances in any of the eight show categories. Some examples include e-textiles, smart eyewear, stretchable electronics, innovative sensor systems, flexible displays, and smart packaging. According to IDTechEx, the

show has seen rapid growth over the past few years. In 2019, the number of attendees increased by nearly 20 percent over 2018. The exhibition also attracts around 3,500 visitors in

away this year, the show will be com- plemented by a fully virtual exhibi- tion. “We are delighted that electron- ica can take place,” says Falk Senger, managing director of Messe München. “Even though we are reducing the total exhibition area, we are offering exhibitors the opportuni- ty with this format to present them- selves to the global market both in the halls and digitally.” Augmenting the physical expo

are digital booths and conference broadcasts. Guests are able to learn about trends in the automotive, embedded, IIoT, 5G, medical elec- tronics, and smart energy fields, without heading to Munich in per- son. Like 2018, SEMICON Europa will be held alongside electronica, showcasing solutions in the field of

semiconductor production. Exhibitors have also welcomed

the expansion of the physical exhibi- tion into the digital space. According to Kurt Sievers, CEO, NXP Semicon - ductors, “electronica is indispensable as a meeting place for the industry. It is important for us as exhibitors to present our innovations and main- tain intensive dialog with our cus- tomers, especially this year. In view of the current situation, the decision to digitize parts of the trade show offerings and thus to meet the special circumstances in an innovative man- ner is both right and important.” Companies are feeling the

effects of the pandemic on their bot- tom lines, a new survey from ZVEI reports. Revenues are expected to Continued on next page
