team by a long way. Tariq Tynan and Alan Hogan put the Springfield defence under enormous pressure, while Robin Ward and Shane Bennett were dom- inant in midfield. Corkbeg doubled their lead on the half hour, when a glorious ball from Ward sent Alan Hogan steaming through on goal and he found the bottom corner for a 2-0 lead. Hogan and Tynan both went close soon after- wards, but their shots were blocked. There was a big scramble in the Corkbeg area towards the end of the half, but good defend- ing by Stephen O’Hal- loran and Tom Smyth en- sured the Cobh side would not grab a goal before half time.
The second half was only 5 minutes old, when Corkbeg grabbed their third goal. Most players stopped, after a blatant foul on Alan Hogan, but a super advantage by ref- eree Tony Thompson al- lowed Robin Ward pick up the ball and he drove a screamer to the bottom corner from 25 yards to extend Corkbegs lead. Aaron Berry had a close range free kick well saved soon afterwards, as Cork- beg threatened to run riot. On 70 minutes, a lifeline for the Cobh side, as slack marking saw their two sub- stitutes combine to pull a goal back from 6 yards. However, an off-the-ball incident immediately af- ter the goal, saw Spring- field reduced to ten men. And two minutes later, the game ended as a contest, when Alan Hogan won a great ball at the edge of the Springfield area, beat two men and shot home from close range to make it 4-1 and grab his first hat- trick for Corkbeg. He near- ly had his fourth before the end, when a brilliant turn on the edge of the area saw a goalbound shot well saved. A great result from a top class performance by Corkbeg on the night.

AULDiv1 -
Corkbeg 2 Glen Celtic 3 Corkbeg were beaten
3-2 by title favourites Glen Celtic in AULDiv1 on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Whitegate. The city side are worthy of their tag as the team to beat this sea- son in Div 1, as they pro- duced an excellent display to grab the three points, despite a second half re- vival by Corkbeg, who in fairness, were missing quite a few regulars on the day.
Glen took it to Corkbeg
from the off and played much the better in the opening exchanges. And they took the lead after a few minutes, when John Corcorans 20 yard free kick found the bottom corner for an early lead. And soon afterwards, they could have had a second, when a header at the back post went just wide. Cork- beg did have possession and plenty of crossing op- portunities but the Celtic defenders closed quickly and clear cut chances were hard to create. Glens sec- ond goal came after 20 minutes. A long clearance from their goalkeeper was flicked on and William Corcoran outbattled two Corkbeg defenders to win the ball and slot home.
The second half saw
a better display from the Beg, but with great pace and good passing moves, Celtic were always dan- gerous. It was nip and tuck for a while, but Glen Celtic got the all impor- tant 3rd
goal to ultimately
kill the game off, when Gary Nolan, who was a livewire all day, beat the offside trap and rounded Corkbeg goalkeeper Eric Higgins, before slotting in from tight angle. Howev- er, things changed quickly, when a quick throw from Eric Higgins to Jordan Tynan on the left wing, put him clear through on goal and he was felled by a challenge by William Corcoran, which saw Glen Celtic reduced to ten men.
Corkbeg showed a bit
more composure at this point, didn’t panic and kept trying to play ball from the back out and waited for the space to ap- pear. Robin Ward, Jordan Tynan and Tariq Tynan took the game by the scruff of the neck and led the revival. A free kick from outside the box was dis- patched to the top corner by Jordan Tynan with 15 minutes left to give Cork- beg some hope. Again, the Beg plugged away, but Gary Nolan was a constant threat for Celtic and they created a few half chanc- es that were well saved by Eric Higgins. Then, with 8 minutes left, Alan Horgan took charge and brought the ball out from the back. Shane Bennett beat
day: Andrew Sisk, Senan O’Toole and debut man Andrew Murphy, who were all excellent.
Corkbeg 50th Anniversary Booklet
To coincide with the
FAI visit in August, Cork- beg launched a special anniversary booklet to celebrate our 50 years in existence. The 40 page colour booklet entitled ‘’50 Shades Of Blue’’ is a brief history of Corkbeg AFC from 1968-2018. Copies of the book can
the
offside trap and showed great composure to double back and beat the keeper twice before slotting home and suddenly, it was 3-2. However, Corkbeg nev- er fashioned a clear cut chance to equalise for the remainder of the game, as both teams cancelled each other out and Glen Celtic left Whitegate with a well earned
three points in their back pocket.
U-13 Div3 - Corkbeg 2
Carrigtwohill Utd 2 Corkbeg got their league up and running on Sunday morning with a local der- by against old foes Car- rigtwohill in Whitegate. With a new look squad this season and playing in an unfamiliar white ‘’away’’ shirt, we got off to a nerv- ous start and found our- selves 2 goals down after 15 mins. But the lads kept playing the better football are were rewarded just be- fore half time with a fine finish from Conor Byrne from a Ryan Murray free kick.
After a good talk with
the lads at the break, they came out firing and were level within 5 mins when Michael Padden ran on to a great through ball from Jake Douglas and finished well. We tried everything to get the winner for the remainder of the game but just couldn’t find the goal the lads deserved. Special mention to the three U-12 players on duty last Sun-
