As the sun sets on our warmth of

Macra
makes its last few prepa- rations for the new sea- son, Club Chairperson, Seamus Reid takes some time to talk about his ex- perience in the organisa- tion. The 26 year old is a native of White’s Cross Glanmire and is a long serving member of the club. He previously held the position of Sports Officer and Assistant Treasurer before

ping up to Chairperson. So Seamus how did
you get involved in Glan- mire Macra? When I was in 6th
year in school current mem-
ber Tomas Cuffe asked me would I take part in Farm Skills.
Of course
i was delighted with the chance
to join Mac-
ra. But my mother had different ideas, no way was she leaving me join during my Leaving Cert year!! So I never got to take part in Farm Skills that year but I joined as soon as I finished my Leaving Cert.
Did your mother need
much convincing to let you join? Once I was finished
my Leaving Cert, she was happy to let me join, so she didn’t need much convincing.
She heard
good things about Macra and was happy for me to be involved.
Great stuff Seamus,

What have you done

there isn’t much I hav- en’t done!! When I first started in Macra I main- ly took part in the sport and agricultural compe-
memories of my time in Macra so far. The one that stands out the most for me would have to be winning the National Ca- pers Final. So Capers is a light variety show and back in 2014/15 I was asked to take part in the cast.
It was great craic
and a brilliant way to get to know my club mates. Winning the final was a great bonus.
After win-
ning the All Ireland we went on a prize winners trip. That year we went to Madrid for a couple of days.
If anything those
days knitted us closer as a group and we had savage craic there.
thing I wanted to do over the years. I have been in the club over 7 years now and I felt it was time for to step up and take on some of the work load. Some of our older members have put an unbelievable amount of time and hard work into the club over the years. I am now one of those senior members and it’s important to me to do the same and con- tinue to make Glanmire as strong as possible over the next year.
what would you like to see

On that note Seamus, Glanmire
achieve in the next year? I would like to see the
club keep going in the upward curve that it has been going in the last few years. That involving bringing in new mem- bers and get them in- volved in as many aspects of Macra as possible. Hopefully we can get as many teams entered into as many competitions as

What would you
say to anyone looking at joining Macra? I would say take
