Killeagh Playground Vandalised
by CLAIRE O’DONOGHUE There is outrage in the
Killeagh-Inch communi- ty as the local playground at Glenbower Woods was vandalised. A fire began near the large slide which scorched
the metal and
spread along the ground under the climbing frame where a large blackened area can be seen on the ground. The playground, funded by SECAD,
was
opened in 2011 thanks to the hard work and dedica- tion of a local committee who worked hard to get this wonderful amenity for the community. The playground area has been
closed off to the public while the incident is being investigated.

the investigation, but con- firmed that they attended a call out to a fire at Kil- leagh Playground at around 10.20pm on Wednesday, 22 August. They asked for an- yone with information re- garding the incident to con- tact them at Youghal Garda Station on 024 92200 or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

The Youghal4All crew
were out and about last Tuesday night to do a gen- eral tidy up at
the busy
area of Dolphin Square Car Park. In true com- munity spirit, some of the residents in the area came out to lend us a hand on the night. We had a bag pack last
Saturday in Brooks Super- Valu, Youghal in aid of The Moby Dick Sculpture. We would like to thank everyone who supported us on the day with a spe- cial thank you to SuperVa- lu, Lisa, Jenny, Maria and Kavan who helped out on the day. It was very much appreciated. We are currently busy for this year’s
preparing
Youghaloween Spooktacu- lar on the weekend before Halloween. We’re keen to live up to our recent Best Festival Award from Cork’s 96FM. While some events are yet to be finalised, in-
cluding some Harry Pot- ter
themed
hugely popular Ban Uisce, Witches Parade and fire-
events, the
works are all on the cards this year. WATCH THIS SPACE. Barry’s Lane new limestone paving should be
ready in time for the Fes- tival so the excitement is building for a truly Spook- tacular weekend!

ers Drama Group have called an emergency public meeting on Mon- day, 3 September at 8pm in Finn’s Tavern, Bal- lymacoda, to discuss its future. The group says it has reached a crisis point due to lack of volunteers and must now seriously consider closing the cur- tain. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Orla Riordan (Chair- person) said, “We start- ed the Drama Group in 2008. In the 10 years since we’ve put on 5 gen- eral shows and 5 pantos. Over 80 children took part in the pantos each year, but when the call went out to parents to help with production or backstage – just one vol- unteer stepped up. The community has been great
to support the
shows themselves with attendance but, with all four Committee mem- bers both on stage AND doing all the work back stage, the workload has been too much”. The committee is desperately seeking new volunteers to take over a whole range of positions, as their ten- ure on the committee comes
to a close with
their children entering exam years in school. It would be such a shame to see this amazing Drama Group, which benefits so many, fall to the wayside due to lack of interest in its future. “I’ve had so much fun and enjoyment
from it
for the last 10 years”, said Orla, “I can only hope
that people
come forward and get in- volved by forming a new committee, and that they and other volunteers will get the same out of it as we, the present commit-
eastcorkjournal will
tee have. We would be thrilled to see everyone and anyone turn up to the meeting and offer their services so that pro- ductions can continue under the new members. For the pantos, it was just €10 per child which in- cluded a costume, script and 2 hours of rehears- als each Saturday from September to opening night near Christmas.” There was a place for everyone who wanted a part regardless of abili- ty – which was always a great ethos to have. The future of the Ballybridge Players Drama Group now rests with
and other members
parents of
the public who wish to see it continue. If no one volunteers at
the public
meeting in Finn’s on 3 September, then it will certainly be closing night for this wonderful com- munity group.
