ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS ELL Mid: Reading
This course focuses on the critical reading skills necessary to understand academic readings. Students demonstrate their ability to analyze information through class discussions and higher level writing assignments. Learners will analyze the difference between main ideas and supporting details, text structure, and purpose, as well as determine the meaning of unknown vocabulary in various reading assignments. Learners will also improve post-reading skills such as summarizing and synthesizing texts in written and oral form.

ELL Mid: Speaking/Listening
Students gain advanced skills to understand spoken English and to increase their ability in spoken English. Students will engage in speaking activities that simulate real social and academic situations and assignments. Students will take notes on simulated academic lectures and interviews, as well as authentic newscasts and lectures. The course focuses on assisting students to acquire a larger vocabulary in order to participate more easily in social and academic situations.

ELL Writing Workshop
Students will be given individualized attention according to their writing needs. In addition to focused mini-lessons in writing topics, students will bring writing assignments from their required courses and identify their writing weaknesses. Students will work on editing and revising while honing their writing skills with appropriate skill building exercises.

ELL English Skills Test Prep
This is a course designed to prepare students for the TOEFL exam and the writing and language section of the SAT. There will be an overview of all skills, question types and opportunities to practice each skill area. Tips and strategies will also be examined for each skill area.
