HIGH SCHOOL • FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How is the schedule divided?
The school year is broken into seven 26-class day modules. Each school day is composed of 4 bins (3 regular 90 minute bins and one 45 minute x-bin). The x-bin can be split into two half x-bins that run every other day.
How do credits work in 2.0?
Each single bin class counts as a credit. A full x-bin counts as a half credit. A half x-bin counts as a quarter credit. Regular classes are one, two, three, or four bins in length. X-bin classes vary in length, as well. A student must take 81 credits over the course of four years, distributed as indicated on page 15, in order to graduate. For those students who have earned credits in our prior system, or for those who transfer to St. Mary’s, we will prorate those credits for them to indicate their progress toward graduation.
Can I take single bins of a multi-bin class?
You cannot take single bins of a multi-bin classes. Those courses are designed either in sequence and/or to offer a full course of study.
Can I switch sections of a multi-section class?
Yes, you may switch among sections of a multi-section class, provided of course that you maintain the sequence of the class. Also recognize cases where your teacher may change. Although we do not necessarily recommend that you bounce from class to class, we recognize this schedule flexibility may allow you to take the classes you want.
All of the English classes are single bins, does that mean I need to take at least three each school year to meet my annual English requirement?
Yes. English classes are all a single bin in length or an X-bin in length. You need to take three credits of English each year, and x-bins can be used to meet that requirement. For example, you could take two regular single bin English classes and 2 X-bin English classes to fulfill your annual requirement.
Can I take multiple science or math classes in a single year?
Yes, this is a possibility, and it represents one of the great aspects of 2.0.
Can I earn P.E. credit through playing sports?
Yes. You will earn a single credit for each OSAA-sanctioned, school sport season you complete.
What are some factors I should consider when scheduling?
In 2.0, setting your schedule is actually a part of the curriculum. We want students to take ownership of using the expansive curriculum and unique schedule to learn about who they are. We ask students to pick their
schedule driver, something challenging, and
something new—in addition to meeting their basic schedule requirements. Review page 16 for more detailed descriptions of these elements.
Is this entire schedule set in stone?
No. The schedule offerings and teacher listings are subject to change. Always refer to the online master course schedule for up-to-date offerings.
If I want to change my schedule, what’s drop add/policy?
The modular schedule does not lend itself to easy schedule changes. You must notify the college counselor or an administrator of your desire to drop or change classes within the first two days of each mod. Recognize that although some swaps may well work, your overall schedule may make some switches difficult or impossible. For that reason, we encourage you to be very thoughtful, thorough, and realistic when first determining your schedule.
