Students will develop the skills necessary to write coherent paragraphs and essays in preparation for their academic classes. Students will learn how to use MLA style citation and understand the steps of the writing process in order to effectively paraphrase and avoid plagiarism. In addition, students will study complex grammar structures in order to write accurately and persuasively.

Students will develop skills for reading short and long passages, as well as demonstrate comprehension through class discussions and written responses in paragraphs and short essays. Students will learn to use context clues to understand new vocabulary, examine how writers develop their arguments, and make inferences about the reading passages.

ELL Mid: Writing practice speaking and


listening for academic interaction. Students will develop listening skills and note-taking strategies in order to respond to lectures on academic topics, news reports, podcasts, and other various real world sources. Students will give presentations and participate in a variety of speaking tasks. Students will practice correct pronunciation while increasing vocabulary.

In this course, students will prepare for the writing demands of their academic classes through summary/ response assignments and research-based persuasive essays. Students will learn and use more complex grammatical
