Eco Week - Fashion Show
Langbank Primary School had a fabulous eco action Week 21st- 25th March. Pictured are our models in our Recycling Fashion Show. The school split into groups to design a new outfit out of old clothes-the results were fabulous! Other activities included:
• wear green to school-bring a rag bag • sponsored assault course
• building bird and bat boxes with parents • recycling talks for all classes • Community Warden visit for all classes • Powerwise Roadshow
We are currently working towards our first Eco Green Flag which we shall hopefully be able to apply for over the next few months.
Langbank Playgroup
Luckily the sun shone at Langbank Playgroup on the day of the recent visit from the Police. We had a great morning exploring the police uniform and discussing how they
can help us - remember to learn your address at an early age! We also talked about what animals help in the police force and said “Good Morning” to the local control room. Sitting in the patrol car was fun and lots of children enjoyed activating the very noisy siren! Many thanks to PC McIntosh for a super session during Red Nose Day.
Thanks also to the Eco Committee from school who helped us learn how to be “green” and to all the school families and villagers who supported the recent Ragbag collection.
Playgroup is back in May and we look forward to a busy two months with more visitors from school plus lots of fun practising for Sports Day.
Houston Primary School
A Fashion Show in school in aid of Cancer Research UK raised £600. The clothes, modelled by our teachers, were provided by M & Co. Hair stylist was Paula Adleigh from Colours Salon, Johnstone and music was provided by Masquerade. Wedding dress designer, Isobel Drysdale displayed some stunning, made to measure bridal, party and prom wear.
Pupils Morgan Kaloheris and Tegan Arnott were the winners of “Design Your Own Prom Dress” Competition and modelled their own designs, made by Isobel, in the grand finale! Sally and Honor Campbell also shone as they graced the catwalk and to everyone involved our sincerest thanks.
At the Regional Primary Schools Burns Competition Jasmine Betteridge gained 1st place for her recitation of “A Dug A Dug”. Jack Stewart gained 3rd in the Instrumental Section for his medley of Scottish Songs. Lorna Robertson came 1st and Ross Laird 2nd for their recitations of Tam O Shanter. Morgan Kaloheris 3rd for singing “My Love is like a Red Red Rose”. Matthew Watson played a Scottish melody on the bagpipes and came 3rd. Congratulations to all these pupils.
The School and Nursery have been awarded their Second Green Flag. The Judge was very impressed and Mrs Jillian McPherson and Mrs Dot Whyte recommended for special recognition by the GTC. This is richly deserved as both ladies work so hard with the Eco Committee. Thanks to Mrs Lesley Laird who has been leading Nursery Eco activities which are also very impressive. Our First Green Flag is displayed in School and Nursery. We plan to have a flagpole for our Second flag.
Parents and friends had special tours of P3’s Egyptian Museum opened by Mr Neil Ballantyne, Manager of Kelvingrove Museum and an ex pupil of the school. A special Assembly was presented by the children too and their display of knowledge at all events was impressive.
The Underpasses are being given new designs created by P7 pupils in Houston and St Fillan’s.
The Country Dancing club attended a special festival in Dunoon organised by Mrs Morton, former Depute Head. Mrs Morton and Mrs Campbell were very proud of the children who danced perfectly on the day.
P6 enjoyed a visit to the annual Safe Kids event which highlighted the many potential hazards they face in every day life.
We are also grateful to Jim Gallagher, Janitor, for the work he has done in Houston Primary since last September. Mr Gallagher was recently appointed to Gryffe High School.
We extend a warm welcome to Mr Henry Findlay, now appointed our permanent Janitor.
