Christian Aid Week 15th-21st May
Bridge of Weir residents have been fantastic supporters of Christian Aid Week over the years. This year’s house-to-house collection takes place during the week of 15th to 21st May – thanks to an army of over 60 volunteer collectors.
Christian Aid’s mission is to tackle poverty by:
• Responding to emergencies; • Funding long term development;
• Challenging the unjust systems that make people poor and keep people poor.
Christian Aid operates in 45 countries throughout the world. Most of its work is done with local partner organisations which not only have first hand knowledge of the practical needs of the poor in their area, but are also able to ensure the sustainability of initiatives to lift communities out of poverty.
Christian Aid helps people of all faiths or none. It is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for Red Cross and NGO’s in Disaster Relief which sets international ethical standards for aid work and, among other things, promises that aid will not be used to further a particular political or religious standpoint.
Please support Christian Aid Week again this year.
In particular,
please complete the gift aid form on the flap of the envelope which the volunteer collector will drop through your door and pick up again later in the week. This allows Christian Aid to receive an extra 25p from the Government for every £1 donated. It may not seem much for one envelope, but multiplied across the whole village it could mean an extra £1,000 for Chr istian Aid!
