So, can you help? We need as many helpers as possible to set up gazebos and tables, etc. If you could give up an hour or two on the day, please contact Bill David on 01505 703500. Or if you would like to have a stall at the fete, please contact Bill and give him your details.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you on the big day!

howwood & elderslie

I saw the plans for the new pharmacy at the recent Howwood Community Council meeting and I have to say, I was very impressed. I am sure the new service will do well and its not before time that the Village had this facility.

Well done to the Community Council on its Clean Up of the Village. This is an annual event and you really can see the difference it makes.

Again on Community Council matters, they have now been reformed under the Council’s new rules for Community Councils. The whole process seemed a bit beauracratic and pretty needless. The Howwood Council, I’m sure, are glad the whole process is over and they can now get on with their business, which they do particularly well.

The recent decision by the people who run the council to raise hall charges has hit village groups badly. A number of them have contacted me concerning, not only their own future, but that of the village hall. It goes without saying that if people use other facilities, then the council will then be thinking about the hall’s future. The hall along the road in Spateston was used over 30 hours per week and it is to be closed, then demolished. I would urge local people to contact the council over this price hike and the effect it could have on local halls.

Scottish Night

Please join us for a Scottish night in St Paul’s Church, Quarrelton Road in Johnstone on May 6th at 7.15pm. Items include a few items from the choir, a few solos, a guest piper and a jolly good sing of some old favourites. There should be something for everyone. It is intended to be a light-hearted evening and a light supper will be provided. No tickets are required, but donations will be gratefully received.
