Abbey children are winners!

The pre school children at Abbey Nursery celebrated the news that they had won 1st place in the bunting design competition organised by the Houston Fairtrade Group and will have great fun spending their voucher at the Rainbow Turtle shop in Paisley.

This was a lovely end to Abbey’s efforts to support Fairtrade Fortnight with lots of activities to highlight the benefi ts of buying goods that trade fairly with their producers. Keeping the focus on the wider world; children are exploring food from around the globe this month and will be supporting Mary’s Meals by fi lling backpacks - our target is 30 - with a variety of fun and educational items and sending them to less well off children in Malawi. We will let you know how we get on next month.

Give your child the best start in life

Here at Duchal we have been trying to get in to the record books……As part of the Fairtrade’s National attempt to put together the largest string of bunting in the World, the nursery children have all decorated cotton bunting fl ags

which have been sent to the Fairtrade Head Offi ce…..Guinness Book of Records here we come!!!

The children are going to use their new “bunting” skills to prepare for the Royal Garden Party for all the young Prince and Princesses for the big Royal occasion!!

We have had great fun with our Vets topic, with many visits from various pets of all shapes and sizes!! The children thoroughly enjoyed a visit from Rebecca Stenhouse and Purdey her Golden Retriever. Rebecca is a trained Jan Ferrel Dog Whisperer and spoke to the children about how to care for our dogs, and brought in a fully equipped dog bag including doggie toothbrushes, bandages and treats. There was much enjoyment in hiding treats to be retrieved around the nursery!

Finally the end of term was marked by the arrival of the Easter Bunny – laden with chocolate eggs – an eggsciting way to end a very busy term!!

If you would like to come and visit the Nursery and

“People Who Help Us” was the learning theme at Playgroup recently and we enjoyed a very interactive and fun visit from two police offi cers from Greenock Station. We tried on their jackets and hats and also looked at some equipment before going out to sit in the patrol car. There was a queue of children to sit in the front and try out the siren and lights and to have their picture taken too. Looking forward to a visit from the fi re service next month too!

We also had an open session for parents and carers with the local Oral Health Practitioner and, with the help of a few cuddly creatures and giant

toothbrushes,

learnt how and when to brush our teeth and what’s healthy and what’s not so good to eat. There was also the chance for parents to ask questions about sugar levels in foods such as raisins and yogurts and proved very informative for all.

We look forward to the summer term learning about the farm and thinking about holidays at the seaside.
