local news Back to the Future Exhibition Thanks Bishopton Community Council

Thanks to Bishopton Community Council and to all those who turned out to help with the recent Community Clean up. Over 60 bags of rubbish were removed from the Village the fi rst day and nearly twice that on the next!

We would like to also extend our thanks to Renfrewshire Council for their support in the equipment supplied and the support and work carried out by members of the ‘Warden Service’ who attended.

Thanks to all. David Woodrow (Bishopton Community Council)

Councillor Carol Puthucheary

"A very constructive meeting was held at Renfrewshire Council HQ on Monday 11th April, with senior representatives from The Tannery in Bridge of Weir, regarding concerns about odours, noise and lighting issues. Those attending included Dr Warren Bowden, SLG Technology; Mr Jim Blain, NCT Leather; residents of Bridge of Weir; myself; Councillor Holmes and representatives from Scottish Water, SEPA and Renfrewshire Council’s Environmental Services. The Council effectively facilitated this meeting as SEPA is the "governing” body for these issues and Renfrewshire Council has no enforcement powers, apart from the lighting issue, which Environmental Services is pursuing. A full and frank discussion took place where Dr Bowden and Mr Blain explained some of the problems they have been having and outlined their plans for the next six months. Scottish Water confi rmed that they would investigate the manhole covers in the area of Jock’s Brae and Crosslee Road. Residents were invited to visit NCT Leather and accepted the invitation. It was also agreed to convene another meeting in late September. 20 mph speed limit signs will shortly be erected outside Gryffe High School. This will be a mandatory speed limit and will be enforceable when the lights are fl ashing. Plans for the new library in the Cargill Hall are now available for residents to see at the Hall.

The exhibition, to be held in the Langbank Church Halls and Church on 15th, 16th and 17th June, has captured the imagination of many of Langbank’s residents. Organiser Mr George Wilkinson has been delighted with the amount of offers of photographs, memorabilia and objects that will go to make this an exhibition not to be missed. Two pictures, inset, show what was Kilmeny House sitting on the hillside and is now Middlepenny House in a somewhat more busy situation and the Langbank Railway Station with Glasgow bound train. These come from old post cards which include St Vincent’s College, the two Langbank Churches and many other views of the village as it was.

There is no charge for entry to the exhibition and everyone will be welcome to see this interesting history of Langbank village. If anyone still has something that could be part of the exhibition please contact Mr Wilkinson on 01475 540431.
