Check product recalls online

Often companies spot defects in items they sell and issue a recall. This helps future customers but if you’ve already paid up, check all recalls on the Trading Standards’ website (shown below), then put in a claim if yours is dodgy.

Paisley Colour PC Small Prints Results

Report by Murray Balfour

The members of Paisley Colour PC judged this Small Prints event, which was held in Hunterhill Community Centre, Paisley, recently. The competition was split into two categories: namely Advanced and Non-Advanced. There was an excellent number of entries, with more than 70 images of landscape, natural history et al on view. Prints were unmounted and no larger than A4.

Audrey McGeoch

took fi rst place in the Advanced section with “Surfers” (pictured below), taken in Portugal.

Always pay on plastic

If possible, pay for part or all of items costing £100 - £30,000 on credit card and you’ve identical rights to claim via the card fi rm as the shop - great when retailers don’t play ball. On debit cards it’s less strong, but you may be able to use the ‘chargeback’ scheme within 120 days.

Write ‘paid under protest’ on receipt

Avoid making payments while in dispute. If forced, eg, repairers have your property, specifi cally say you’re ‘paying under protest’ - it’ll help if you end up in court.

May Is Make A Will Month at ACCORD Hospice

One of the most important ways of income generation for ACCORD Hospice has been legacies. In most years they play a signifi cant part in the overall income of ACCORD and, with the current economic conditions we are all experiencing, it is diffi cult to predict if this will continue to be the case. It is a fact that there are still many members of our community who have not yet made a will and perhaps, in our own small way, we may be able to offer some assistance to anyone considering this. Throughout the month of May we have arranged with several local fi rms of solicitors that they will offer a free standard will service in return for a donation to ACCORD. If you would like to fi nd out more about this scheme please get in touch with us and we will send you details of the participating fi rms. Email: fundraising@accord.org. uk or telephone Ken Mathie (Fundraising Manager) on 0141 581 2000.
