Czech called Loto and at the end of 2015 they offered numerical lottery and instant scratch cards via a network of 5,451 points of sales of which 1,550 were lottery terminals.


In 2014 Fortuna Game acquired 100 per cent of the shares in Intralot Czech which supplies lottery technology to the group and it changed its name to Fortuna Technology.


Online betting began in 2009 with Fortuna and online betting accounts for 61 per cent of total group gross win in 2015.


Fortuna says its 2015 revenues have benefited from a surge in online and mobile wagering. Tey provide fixed odds in Czech, Slovakia and Poland and say net profit in 2015 was €19.5m (up 22.5 per cent from 2014).


Overall fixed odds betting stakes were up 26 per cent to €847.7m while betting revenue was up 11 per cent to €138.7m. Fortuna’s lottery operations saw sales rise by 17.8 per cent to €19.7m and revenue up by 15.5 per cent to €8.7m.


Te amount staked from sports betting reached €828m while Czech accounts for 54.5 per cent of the total sports betting stakes (€462.1m).


Meanwhile online betting was up 26.4 per cent to €84.7m although retail betting revenue declined by seven per cent to €54m. Czech remains Fortuna’s key market accounting


for 54.5 per cent of betting stakes followed by Slovak (30.7 per cent) and Poland (12.5 per cent).


Finally Synot Tip is part of the international holding company Synot which is one of the leading Czech companies in the lottery and gaming industry.


Te company has three separate divisions – one for betting, another for lottery systems and a third for casinos, mainly poker games.


Synot Tip is the betting exchange division and primarily focuses on sports betting and other types of bets and these can be made via a branch counter or via a betting terminal found is bars, restaurants or petrol stations for example where bets can be made.

Synot Holding achieved a gross operating profit of CzK3bn last year and offers gaming machines, multi players, VLT terminals into the Czech market alongside its Synot Tip products.


Te company recently celebrated 25 years in business and they began with three employees and today operates in 20 countries with an annual turnover of €600m. Synot announced in January that it will scrap all


its sport sponsorships in protest of the unfair tax hikes on services. Tey also claim under the tax increases they stand to lose around CzK200m and under such conditions cannot continue their sponsorship.


Te shift from the flat 20 per cent tax on gambling services to the 23 per cent on sports betting and lottery revenues is expected to have huge impacts on the company. As such Synot has removed its sponsorship deals saying it could no longer afford to fund national sporting organisations.


Synot was the sponsor of the Czech football league and is also shirt sponsor for the AC Sparta Prague, Czech’s most popular team. Synot also holds commercial tie ups with national basketball and ice hockey leagues.


Synot’s Ivo Valenta said the government had taken a “populist and unprofessional approach” to taxing the industry.


ONLINE GAMING Internet sports betting in Czech has grown


steadily over the years from Czk1.9bn in revenues in 2012 to CzK2.4bn in 2013, CzK3.3bn in 2014 and Czk4.1bn in 2015.


Internet card games and tournaments have seen a huge increase over the last four years in terms of revenues from CzK6.2m in 2012; CzK12.5m in 2013, CzK44.7m in 2014 and CzK40.3m last year. Te Ministry of Finance has stated that the new
