DOMINICAN REPUBLIC OPERATIONS
Te President of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Dominican Republic has postponed a request filed by local residents who have rejected the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino currently under construction in capital Santo Domingo.
Te injunction was filed by residents of the neighbourhood of Piantini and surrounding areas against the urban planning department of the National District which was responsible for granting the building permit under the last administration. Te court made the decision so that those living in the district would have time to become aware that a motion had been filed to suspend the building of the hotel and casino.
Locals represented by lawyer Miriam Paulino, argue that the project violates local planning provisions and Paulino has asked newly elected National District mayor David Collado to temporarily suspend the building permit which she says is riddled with irregularities. Te temporary suspension of the licence will give the Mayor time to listen to local residents and experts so that the project can be cancelled.

Merkur Gaming heads to Buenos Aires
Merkur Gaming has confirmed it has established a new company and is looking for premises in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Te company said it expects to open a new Argentinean office in the first few months of 2017, bringing its innovation and excellence to what is once again one of the most vibrant gaming territories in Latin America.
Having now completed a process of market evaluation, Merkur Gaming Argentina has been established as the latest wholly owned subsidiary of the Gauselmann Group. It is planned that the new company, located in Buenos Aires, will be fully open for business in early 2017.
Charles Hiten, CEO Merkur Gaming Americas, said: “Argentina is now re-established as one of the most successful countries in Latin

Opposition to the new project has been growing since February when a committee of school staff and residents in the neighbourhood of Piantini asked the Ministry of Finance to deny a licence for the casino which will be part of the Hard Rock Hotel.

Colombia
Te Colombian government is preparing to block international sports betting websites from operating in Colombia without any official authorisation, following a decision taken by Te Colombian Gaming Control Board (Coljuegos).
Te announcement comes after growing concern over match fixing, illegal local betting schemes and fears that criminal gangs have infiltrated the gaming industry for money laundering.
Te news also comes on the
heels of a major investigation carried out by the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Prosecutor's office which broke up an illegal betting scheme in October. Te scheme took bets from 164 locations and generated around $300m pesos a day under the name Pijaosports.
