International Sauna & Spa & Pool Fair 2016 (known as Sauna & Spa & Pool China 2016) will be held from 13 – 15 May and moved to PWTC Expo in Pazhou, Guangzhou with exhibition space enlarged to 20,000m2
First US Natural Swimming Pool Opens In Minneapolis
When it comes to wet leisure developments, there is one sector where the US is firmly behind Europe – and that’s in natural swimming pools.
.
Organisers expect more than 350 renowned brands to be exhibited and 20,000 professional visitors from the domestic and overseas markets are expected to be invited.
BROTHERS FINED FOR SELLING DANGEROUS SPAS Two Australian brothers have been given substantial fines and ordered to pay costs and compensation after selling or offering to sell banned spas that featured potentially deadly ‘potty skimmers’ and failing to supply goods that had been paid for.
Spas that contain this type of skimmer (which gets its name because it resembles a child’s potty) must have a protective cover on them that can only be removed by use of a tool. The cover is necessary to prevent a person becoming lodged or caught in the skimmer box due to the effects of suction. Nichola s and Gerasimos Lord purchased spas made in Jiangsu Province, China which were then shipped to Australia and supplied despite Fair Trading issuing them with an embargo notice.

Bathers across numerous European countries have enjoyed them for decades, but regulations in the US have meant that public pools across the pond have had to be treated with chemicals. That is until now. After months of delays, the green, chlorine-free waters of the Webber Park Natural Swimming Pool in Minneapolis have now opened to the public. No chemicals are used on the 500,000 gallons of water that make up the swimming pool, instead it’s cleaned using a natural filtration system. Every 12 hours, water is drained out of the pool and treated in a separate area using layers of gravel and about 7,000 aquatic plants, and then the clean water is pumped back into the pool. Some of the delays were due to problems with the pool’s unique water management systems which need ongoing monitoring and additional specialised robotic equipment used for main taining the pool and these issues have meant that until they are resolved, the pool is open three days a week. Daily use and a Grand Opening Celebration is expected in summer 2016.
The project
started some ten years ago, with construction of the pool only getting under way in 2013.
The pool, which features lifeguards and has a capacity of 500 bathers, has not come cheap. It has cost more than $6m (£3.9m), well above the original $4m estimate.
Like all naturally filtered swimming pools, the
Webber Park pool has a major environmental advantage over conventionally treated pools thanks to the omission of chemicals in the water treatment process. This green benefit therefore fits perfectly with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s responsibility to ‘permanently preserve, protect, maintain, improve, and enhance its natural resources, parkland, and recreational opportunities for current and future generations’.
Relocation Provides Expansion Opportunity For US-Branch Of European Spa Brand
Recently, Passion Spas USA had to move their inventory to a new warehouse when the premises they formerly occupied were required for another purpose. This would normally be bad news for any company, however on this occasion, the forced move has actually been a blessing in disguise as it has provided an opportunity for the company by leaving it in a position to expand.
“In 2012 we launched Passion Spas USA and since then we have grown rapidly, becoming one of the largest selling spa brands in the Midwest!” said Rick Mouw, the brand’s US representative. Passion Spas started in the Netherlands, which gives special significance to the fact that their US division is positioned in Holland, Michigan. “Across the pond, it has become widely recognised as the largest selling spa brand in Europe,” said Mouw, adding: “And we are quickly moving to become one of the largest brands in the USA as well!”
Home hot tubs by Passion Spas are distinctive for their beautiful lines, their wide array of massage
features developed in close
partnership
with physiotherapists, their profoundly effective water maintenance systems, their energy-efficient heating systems, and their precision engineering. “Passion Spas combines exceptional styling and design with more standard features than any spa on the market,” Mouw added.
Their complete line up has something for everyone, be it an entry-level spa from their Pure Collection or a fully-featured swim spa from their Sport Collection.
As Passion Spas USA settles into their new space, they look forward to building a brand that is increasingly earning an international reputation for excellence and quality.
