SAFETY FLOORING

NO SLIP-UPS WITH CERTIKIN’S SUNDECK

If you are looking for a safe, non-slip flooring that is free draining, cool and comfortable, versatile, low maintenance, hard-wearing and individual then look no further than Sundeck – a rubber chip flooring that is now available as an installation service from Certikin. It is high quality, attractive and functional and suitable for a multitude of applications. Certikin, using its team of dedicated contractors, will arrange a pre-site visit for a quotation and then schedule the full installation. A super-safe flooring, Sundeck is made up of a mixture of coloured rubber granules and a two-part epoxy resin. It is laid 6mm thick onto almost any clean, dry substrate such as screed, concrete (if trowel finished) or timber. Being flexible, it is excellent at covering uneven or cracked surfaces. The substrate should include provision for any drainage required since water passes through the Sundeck and will flow into the drainage provided at the substrate level. Sundeck is offered in ten attractive colours; motifs and colourways can also be incorporated. Aside from pool flooring, it is also suitable for changing rooms, patios, corridors and leisure areas.

CORRECT SOLUTIONS WILL VARY ACCORDING TO FLEXFLOORING Is it non-slip? Is it easy to maintain? Can it be non-porous? What about colour fade? How safe is it? What about chlorine? How long will it last? These are just a few of the many questions Flexflooring get asked as installers of pool surrounds on a regular basis. Paul Robinson, Managing Director of Flexflooring, responds: “I’m afraid the answer is not always straight forward, as many of these issues are inter-related, not to mention the client’s pool environment.” Therefore Flexflooring offers a number of solutions to cover the various wet leisure environments.

The Rubbaflex Pool Surround is made from the finest EPDM granules and the best resins to ensure clients get a floor that remains non-slip and bright. Usually porous, there is the option to seal a Rubbaflex Pool Surround by adding eFlex, to make it non-porous. Rubbaflex Splash Surfacing for commercial wet leisure installations including splash pads and spray parks is also available and has been tailored to deal with the rigours of commercial

wet leisure environments.

The Mflex Polyurethane Coating is a specialist non-slip coating for the wet leisure industry, ideal for splashpads or concrete paddling pools.

MFLEX is based on a polyurethane anionic dispersion of UV stable aliphatic polyurethane resin, combining a fine rubber (EPDM) granule for non-slip. It exhibits excellent film hardness, flexibility, good water and abrasion resistance coupled with excellent weathering properties. Finally, there’s their new Resin Bound Stone floor Stonex, which is an aesthetically pleasing and hard wearing finish. Stonex creates a seamless, safe and attractive surface for both domestic and commercial pools.

Made from quartz and stone aggregate plus the best resins to ensure you get a surface that lasts, the Stonex pool surround is porous, with water dispersed via evaporation and natural drainage.

Commenting on customer choices, Paul said: “Rubber has been a popular choice for pool surrounds due to its non-slip and impact absorption properties; however we have seen a growing trend in resin bound stone and epoxy mortar surrounds. Rubber can be difficult to maintain, especially in a commercial environment, where footfall is high, so a good maintenance regime is essential. These harder

resin bound products are a lot less susceptible to bacterial growth, but additives need to be used to increase non-slip properties, and these additives will wear off over time.” He concluded: “Unfortunately there will always exist a trade-off between non-slip and ease of cleaning.”

SAFE AND STYLISH SLIP RESISTANCE

Non-slip textured stone paving from Golden Coast offers a complete solution. Whether customers have special needs, are growing older or simply include families with young children, poolside safety should always be a prime concern for swimming pool professionals – starting at poolside. When it comes to safety, a slip resistant surface for entry/exit is essential… as is the ability to create an entirely matching swimming pool hard landscape surround – from patio paving to the coping stones at the water’s edge, all of which can be achieved through Golden Coast’s range of Cranbourne Stone pavings.

Using natural materials, Cranbourne hand- crafted ‘sculptured’ stone, such as Timsbury Sandstone, can be used to create a range of effects, from cottage to contemporary, while avoiding the expected stark contrast between coping and paving stones.

Through Golden Coast, a range of natural textured stone for regular sized pools is available, alongside made-to-measure offerings for bespoke pools. It is even possible to have steps leading into the water crafted in the same material.
