SAFETY A PRIORITY WITH DESIGNWORKS TILES

In areas surrounding swimming pools, spas and hot tubs, there’s no doubt that safety should be one of the main considerations during the design and installation process. In areas that could potentially be hazardous, it is vital that the right products are specified and that they are up to the task to ensure the safety of all users. Designworks Tiles’ range of pool and pool-side tiles has been created with these considerations in mind and offers a selection of superior quality tiles, rigorously tested to ensure that they offer high levels of slip resistance. A beautiful range of slip resistant mosaics is also available, for an added level of safety within pools and spas. The collection complies with industry standards and features detailed technical information to ensure that the appropriate

product is used in the right area. Methods include pendulum tests and wet ramp barefoot tests. All of the tiles are hard wearing and many are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Putting safety first doesn’t mean that you must compromise on aesthetics. Their collections include a vast selection of colours, sizes and finishes from minimal plain porcelains to realistic stone effect tiles and decorative products. Large format tiles, mosaics and mosaic effect tiles, which offer easier installation, are all available. Designworks Tiles prides itself on providing a full selection of formats to enable uniform finish for walls and floors.

Matching coving pieces, step treads and swimming pool grips, and Designworks Tiles’ colour matching service for drainage grills and covers, ensure the look will be seamless.

CASE STUDY: Restoration Of The National Lido Of Wales

Following a major restoration project costing £6.3m, Lido Pontypridd, – The National Lido of Wales reopened this summer.

Spearheaded by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council with financial support from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, Heritage Lottery Fund and Cadw the redevelopment has totally transformed the landmark Grade II listed lido. The project included the remodelling of the lido, to provide three heated pools. Kent based specialists Flexflooring were involved in the project and have been busy with the restoration of many council run lidos in what seems to be a growing trend.

Kier, the main contractor appointed Flexflooring to install 400 square metres of their Artic blend around the pool’s perimeter. This was installed with a UV resistant binder ensuring the surround maintains its original colour.

Kier first installed the concrete base which was then allowed to cure for 35 days.

Flexflooring then ground

the su rface to remove any laitance and to improve the mechanical key. They then primed the surface with a solvent free polyurethane binder before using their latest piece of machinery, the P207, known to their team as Marius, to install a consistent finish at 6mm.
