TREADMILL PROVIDES IDEAL AQUATIC THERAPY SOLUTION

CASE STUDY: UNDERWATER

The Clavadel in Guildford, Surrey is a 32 bedroom, purpose built care centre specialising in post operative rehabilitation and convalescence. One of their most important facilities is the 6m x 4m hydrotherapy pool with moving pool floor and integrated underwater treadmill supplied by Swimming Pool Fitness. This pool is split equally into two areas with one side offering a 3m x 4m moving swimming pool floor with an integrated underwater treadmill.

The moving pool floor allows all of their clients to receive the ideal care and rehabilitation with aquatic therapy. The floor can be lifted to the top of the pool for easy access even with wheelchairs and the depth adjusted to alter the intensity and resistance for every user.

The addition of the underwater treadmill brings the floor to life by giving users the opportunity to walk, jog or run at different intensities whilst feeling the reduced weight bearing, pain relief and improved circulation associated with aquatic therapy.

The in-pool treadmill is the next step in active, water based rehabilitation. Due to the movable floor the therapist has the ability to adjust the water depth to the demands of the patient. This makes it possible to start the rehabilitation almost right after surgery. Next to that, therapy is suitable for anybody at any stage of rehabilitation.

The underwater treadmill can be used for rehabilitation purposes as well as for physical training or weight loss purposes. The treadmill is fitted with a touch screen control, for easy adjustment of speed and depth. Underwater treadmills are available as integrated in-floor models, but also available as drop-in models that can be removed from the pool area. With two or more movable floors, it is possible to use the pool for different groups at the same time. For instance, one part of the pool can be used for exercises with children, while the other part is used for exercises with adults. A moveable safety curtain serves as a protection for the underlying space and both floors can be adjusted independently.

Moving floors from Swimming Pool Fitness are easy to use and require the minimum of adaptation to the pool construction. The company offers a wide range of possibilities to meet client specifications and they can be applied in new, as well as existing pools.
