WINTER DEBRIS COVERS
Plastica’s hands on winter debris covers in the making
spring arrives. PoolSaver is manufactured to AFNOR test specifi cations for added peace of mind. Available in Deluxe and Criss-Cross versions, Plastica’s Traditional Mesh Winter Covers have been tried and tested over the past 40 years and are still a fi rm favourite with the pool trade. New for 2015, the company’s Supreme Heavy Mesh Winter Covers are similar in design to traditional mesh covers, but feature a mesh thickness of 288gsm, which is nearly twice as thick as conventional mesh covers. They are semi-opaque to ensure outstanding prevention against algae infestation.
Also new for 2015 are their Opaque Debris Covers. These solid, tarpaulin winter covers are available with either webbing straps or bungee fi xings. Designed to eliminate all sunlight, Opaque Debris Covers are the winter covers of choice in mainland Europe and are now becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Samples are available on all types of Plastica winter debris covers upon request.
CERTIKIN COVERS UP FOR WINTER Having notched up over 40 years of making covers, Certikin is one of the country’s leading specialists in providing top quality winter debris covers.
As you would expect of a top of the range
cover, they are made of grade ‘A’ woven polyethylene, which has been proven to withstand the most rigorous of British climates. Together with specially formulated anti-chaffi ng pads, reinforced corners and polished stainless steel spring fi ttings, it means that they are the very best on the market.
There are three standard options to choose from – the Maple, the Criss Cross which additionally features webbing straps stitched across the full length and width of the cover for extra strength, and the Cedar which
also includes a tough PVC skirt stitched to the underside of perimeter and fi xings at approximately 1m centres.
Each are individually made to the customer’s
specifi cations, fi t perfectly and look attractive – be it kidney, kite, oval or a simple rectangular shape. Available in green, blue, grey and tan, all covers are supplied in a box and with a storage bag and have a fi ve year guarantee. A cover will keep the pool clean for when it is opened up again in the spring – the heavier weave Maple Ultra cover option, which combines the classic style and simplicity of the existing maple cover but with the superior strength, eliminates almost all light penetration; considerably reducing the chance of algae growth. Surface water will slowly seep through the fabric, keeping all other debris on top.
Finally there’s the Certikin Above-Ground
Winter covers which are ideal for timber pools. Covers are manufactured from the same materials as standard debris covers and can be made to almost any size and shape; ladder entry points can also be included. Their standard design allows the cover to fold 50mm over the edge of the timber frame, but other preferences of sizing can be accommodated if specifi ed at point of order. Certikin Above-Ground Winter covers are available in green and blue.

An effective winter cover will exclude leaves and other debris, and will form a
Certikin debris cover on sail shaped pool neatly incorporating step unit
shrinking of carbon footprints. Technical and marketing support is part of the service as they endeavour to contribute to the much needed mind shift around environmental awareness. Plastipack has grown since their formation to become one of the world’s largest suppliers of swimming pool cover materials.
Their EnergyGuard and CoolGuard swimming
pool covers are a great investment because they can be used all year round.
A typical woven mesh winter cover prevents leaves and debris from entering the pool. It will allow light through and therefore require chemical treatment to prevent algae growth. When used in conjunction with a woven mesh debris cover, the EnergyGuard and CoolGuard covers have a black underside that blocks the light from entering the water, therefore stopping photosynthesis and inhibiting algae growth.
This means that a pool owner will save many hours of preparation time by not having to fi lter, backwash and vacuum the pool, as well as saving money on chemicals and electricity usage. A great start for the new swimming season! SPN
