All Eyes Are On SPATEX 2016 – 20 Years Old And Stronger Than Ever!

With over 80 exhibitors already signed for SPATEX 2016 (at the time of going to press) and that number growing fast, the show’s organiser, Michele Bridle says the special 20th anniversary edition promises to be an industry spectacular!

W

ith four months still to go before the curtain rises on SPATEX 2016 at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, the team has

been overwhelmed by the industry’s fantastic response. Since the SPATEX newsline went out at the end of July, with a roll call of our esteemed exhibitors, seven new exhibitors have come on board – Behncke GmbH, Bowman, Pool & Spa Scene, Jetstream UK Ltd, Pool Supplies Ltd, Suntrap and Total Water Products and there are many more in the pipeline.

Michele says: “We have recently welcomed

CIMSPA (the Chartered Institute of Management of Sport and Physical Activity) to our ever expanding list of supporting partners. The industry, wide and far, has really embraced us and showed us their support, for which we are supremely grateful. We are predicting an early sell out with well over a hundred high quality exhibitors, representing the cream of the wet leisure industry from both home and abroad. With the arrival of autumn, our goal is now in sight and we have greatly increased the momentum – planning is well underway for some exciting events to mark our special 20th anniversary edition, news of which we will be disclosing shortly.”

An Upgraded Ricoh Arena Awaits Michele adds: “What better than to have a leading world class venue in which to celebrate our anniversary – SPATEX moved to Coventry’s Ricoh Arena two years ago and hasn’t looked back. It has more than proved itself as a superb location, situated in the heart of the UK, within two hours drive of 75% of the country and offering 2,000 free onsite car parking spaces. And now I am delighted to report that it is getting a multi- million pound upgrade in time for SPATEX 2016!”

A series of planned improvements includes a major upgrade of the Ricoh Arena Hotel to give visitors a total of five bars, three onsite restaurants and over 20 food and beverage outlets. David Armstrong, the Chief Executive

of Wasps, the professional rugby union club and owner of the Ricoh Arena, says: “We aim to establish the Ricoh Arena as the UK’s leading venue for sport, business and entertainment.”

In a further redevelopment of the facilities, an on-site railway station, with direct links to Coventry and Nuneaton railway stations, will be open in time for SPATEX 2016.

Education – Twice As Good Repeating the success of last year’s double educational programme SPATEX is once again planning a parallel set of free workshops and technical seminars throughout the three days of the show. These have been carefully planned not to overlap in subject matter and

a whole raft of seminars appealing to a new set of visitors is planned, news of which will shortly be released. SPATEX’s loyal partner, the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers (ISPE) will be presenting its traditional technical programme of workshops, to run throughout the three days of the show, featuring a wide variety of pool and spa-related topics. The value of these workshops is well recognised throughout the industry. Keith Moody of La Paloma Contracts, Spain voices the opinion of many when he says: “Each year I come over from Spain to attend SPATEX, not just for the exhibition and display of new products but also for the seminars and workshops. Living and working as I do in Spain, it is important to keep up to date with all the industry training, education and Standards and SPATEX is an unparalleled free source.” On the Sunday of SPATEX 2016 at 4pm, for 45 minutes, a session entitled ‘Legionnaires’ Disease Awareness’ will look at the steps that can be taken to prevent, detect and combat this silent killer. It only takes one bad outbreak to destroy a business completely. On the Monday at 1.15 pm a session entitled ‘Dealing with Pool Problems’, tackles some commonly encountered problems. For instance, “How much chlorine do I need to put in if the controller packs up?”; “We only ‘floc’ if the pool goes cloudy so why do we need to do it all the time?”; “Why do I need to test the spa every two hours when we have an automatic controller?” and so on.

A number of other sessions are currently being planned and further details will shortly be on the SPATEX website including the full seminar and workshop programme. SPATEX 2016 takes place Sunday 31 January to Tuesday 2 February 2016 at the Jaguar Exhibition Hall, Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
