When it comes to cutting-edge technolo- gy, Cataldi says that many of his corporate partners have shown a great interest in 3- D Video Projection Mapping. "In the late 2000s, this technology was adopted by advertising agencies and was the focus of many marketing campaigns... a motion graphics technique that
allows you to
map three-dimensional points to a two- dimensional plane displaying creative dynamic presentations on just about any stationary object. Imagine illuminating a building and all of its architectural ele- ments, like columns, with video images custom designed to fit the contours of the object's surface.”
iou now have the ability to create per- ceived motion and distortion of a fixed object,” he continues. "Companies like Audi® and Pepsi® have successfully used this technology to rebrand and launch new products. If you search YouTube, there are so many great examples of how cre- ative and engaging this technology can be. The possibilities are limitless and the production costs associated can vary depending upon the expressed vision.”
manager, says Cataldi. "When planning a meeting or special event, the production manager has a world of knowledge and past experiences to pull ideas from. His or her creativity, CAD designs and renderings are invaluable additions that can illustrate the look and feel of a meeting without leaving the office environment. When using a production manager to the fullest of their capabilities in such a way, pre- planning decisions can be made effec- tively and efficiently.”
In terms of existing technology that might be underutilized in improving events, Wildemann points to wide screen aspect ratio screens. While no longer considered "cutting edge,” these screens are still very effective in creating an alternative to stan- dard video screen or scenic treatment. "It allows you to create a visually dynamic and flexible background as well as a cre- ative palette on which to deliver your computer and video content. The use of LED video as creative scenic elements also is underutilized. Some of the reasons point to price, but a properly planned budget and effective use of these ele- ments can really make a difference.”

Peluzzo notes that in certain situations, the projection screen may actually be an event tool that is over-utilized. Using one or a few HD-TVs instead can be a better option, depending upon the venue. "For instance, if your event is being held during the daytime and the venue has a substan- tial amount of natural daylight, TVs would be a better option because in strong day- light a screen and projector can look washed out and guests might find it diffi- cult to see your video presentation, where- as the HD-TVs can display images clearly.”
Looking to the future, Wildemann says that one innovative
trend Advanced
Staging recently began using to great effect is pixel mapping for video. This is the ability to specifically address where and in what shape video content will be projected. "It allows you to create multi- ple, differently shaped surfaces on which to simultaneously project, including digi- tal images as decor, video as playback, or live images. The creative possibilities are endless, and I see it becoming the next big thing as planners look for new ways to impress and engage their audiences.”
EVENT FURNISHINGS
According to Dave Buckley, CSEP, north- east regional sales manager for AFR Event Furnishings, "Furniture should be a con- sideration when designing an event that has a dining experience, as the 'alternative dining concert' is often over- looked. AFR Event Furnishings has many options for alternative dining, from the elegant sophistication of modern high tops to rustic family French cottage-styled settings, different furniture can help carry the mood.”
The team at AFR helps clients by showing them all the different opportunities that exist for using lounge furniture for events. Buckley says a common mistake that clients make occurs when they feel that they cannot afford to have lounge furni- ture at their events because of the cost. "AFR works hard to have options for all levels of our clients" budgets.”
After all, he says, the selection of furniture is a major choice in deciding the overall design of the event. "We work with a lot of designers,
florists and decorators on
