The Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg is an extensive agricultural exhibition complex comprised of con- nected exhibit halls, arenas and meeting rooms, the first of which was completed in 1931 with numerous expansion pro- grams having followed since.

Today this facility houses more than 21- acres of covered exhibit space, and is the largest agricultural exhibition complex in the nation. In the winter of 2011, the complex invested nearly $10 million to renovate its existing entrances, lobbies, conference rooms and exhibit halls, replacing doors and windows, installing a new audio-visual system, new connect- ing grand stairway, a new elevator, rest- room renovations, new wayfinding sig- nage, and a new zoned sound system.

The project focused on the complex’s McClay Street lobby and the conference

rooms above it, but additional work was done throughout in selected locations. The McClay Street lobby project used the Art Deco ornament gracing the exterior of the original Main Hall and Large Arena as an inspiration. The Art Deco theme is reflected in the glass fiber reinforced con- crete frames around the major entry points, in the signage and graphics, and in the decorative railings at the new grand stairway.

In addition, the historic exhibit halls at the complex have been given a new identity, now branded as Heritage Halls. Other newly named areas include the Keystone Conference Center and the Farm Show Crossroads, as well as others. New light- ing, ceilings, carpet and an AV system were added to the conference space.

Improvements to the complex's large arena included the removal, repainting and repair of seats, restoration of the arena's historic color-coding system, and the installation of an entirely new sound

system with a portable soundboard so shows can be run from multiple locations.

• PLACES TO MEET

The Hotel Hershey offers 278 rooms, including 48 premium cottage rooms, and its sister property, Hershey Lodge, is home to 665 guest rooms. The two hotels present planners with 125,000- square feet of combined meeting space, and a Hershey Meetings staff of experi- enced event professionals. The resort's "Grand Expansion" in 2009 added a recreation area, restaurant, guest cot- tages and a meeting cottage to the resort's already extensive offerings. The meeting cottage is separate from the activity of the main hotel, providing increased privacy as well as easy access to restaurants, "The Chocolate Spa,” and everything else at the resort.
