OLOMOUC ILSA CHAPTER
Palacký Univ. Olomouc, Faculty of Law Olomouc, Czech Republic Ivo Heger, Chief Officer
Palacký University Olomouc has only recently formed an ILSA Chapter. Notwithstanding, ILSA Chapter Olomouc bears a strong commitment to advancing the study of international law and enthusiastically engages in various activities. The primary goal of the Chapter is to promote par- ticipation of students in competitions from the sphere of public international law and private in- ternational law, particularly the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitra- tion Moot. Furthermore, the Chapter exposes students of the University to diverse aspects of international law and international relations by inviting speakers from various institutions. Speeches and panel discussions led by experts (so-called “round tables”) provide students a unique opportunity to explore the international law from different approaches and perspectives. This fall, the Chapter had the opportunity to host sessions with the Director of the Office for In- ternational Legal Protection of Children and the Head of the UN Information Centre Prague.
The Chapter has successfully commenced co- operation with White & Case, LLP regarding the organization of the Czech national Jessup round. Consequently, the Chapter was granted an op- portunity to host the upcoming Czech national
round in Olomouc. Additionally, the Chapter is in- volved in preparation and support of the Palacký University Jessup team.
Regarding the area of international private law, the Chapter provides essential support to Uni- versity’s Vis Moot team. In addition, the Chap- ter took the initiative in organization of the 5th Olomouc Vis Pre-Moot that will take place in Olomouc, Czech Republic on March 17 – 18, 2012. The purpose of the Pre-Moot is above all to practice for oral hearings, develop advocacy skills of participants, get essential feedback from practitioners, academics and former Vis moot participants and get in touch with other teams – all before the Vienna qualification rounds begin. The Olomouc Pre-Moots always attained great success and provided valuable experience to the participants. In the past, the Faculty of Law of Palacký University Olomouc had the opportunity to host Vis Moot teams not only from Czech Re- public, but also from Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Cayman Islands.
Recently, new officers of the Chapter were ap- pointed. The main aim of the new officers is to continue in development of the work of the pro- visional management of the Chapter that took care of the Chapter for a short period after its formation. In this manner, I would like to use this opportunity to thank Mr. Tomas Zimolka, Vice President for Round Tables, who has exerted a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm into arranging the sessions with legal special- ists, and the Chapter’s Secretary General, Mr. Ta- deas Vraspir, who singlehandedly and effectively
