elcome to the ILSA Quarterly’s an- nual “Study Abroad Issue” which not only contains comprehensive study abroad program listings, but
also showcases articles regarding how overseas opportunities can help provide a good foundation to pursue a career in international law.
Please note that the study abroad listings that be- gin on page 39 are organized by country. These listings are also available on the ILSA website (
www.ilsa.org). The online listings can be sorted by program title, program dates, cost, or country. Also, the online listings include the link to individ- ual study abroad program websites.
There are many factors to consider when choos- ing a study abroad program or internship abroad. If you are currently contemplating how these pro- grams could fit into your law school experience, please take the time to read “Promoting Interna- tional Experiences: Reflections on Studying and Working Abroad” on page 35.

The International Law Students Association (ILSA) is a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides students with opportunities to study, research, and network in the international legal arena. The ILSA Quarterly is an academic magazine that features articles written by students, scholars and practitioners concerning timely issues of international law and related topics, as well as information on ILSA projects, study abroad programs, LL.M. programs and career opportunities in the field of international law. It is published four times during the academic year.

and the “Careers in International Law” article on Professor Nicholas Howson (page 93). There is an emphasis in both articles about keeping an open mind in regard to international law experiences. Here are a few words of wisdom from Profes- sor Howson, “Lastly, understand upon gradua- tion from law school you don’t know much, and that even after 20 years of practice you still won’t know much. The whole game is about encounter- ing new problems, keeping an open mind, exer- cising humility about how little you know about your own legal system much less a foreign le- gal system. Above all, be very ambitious about gaining a deep, nuanced, understanding of how other national legal and regulatory systems really work.”
