ILSA Chapter Happenings
Project on Young Leaders. Teaming with other law school groups, our ILS chapter was able to co-sponsor an event titled “International Human Rights Law Education, Research and Advocacy for Women’s Right to Freedom of Expression and Political Participation.” The event included si- multaneous English to Arabic interpretation and presented female Yemeni panelists with experi- ences as journalists, authors and activists.
Keeping the group fun and livening up the so- cial life of our internationally minded students, the ILS hosts a dinner once a month at local international restaurants. These dinners help to highlight the cultural diversity of Indianapolis and expand our students’ horizons by trying some tasty ethnic delights.
Looking forward to future events, our ILS chap- ter will host an interactive panel with local lawyers who spend their time practicing inter- national law in Indianapolis. This panel will give our students the opportunity to see that even “Naptown” has a presence on the international stage and that there are many opportunities in the community for them to practice international law. Furthermore, the panel will help to show the importance of international law to a student’s le- gal education as panelists discuss the ways in
which they have seen international issues pop up in seemingly domestic problems.
Our ILS chapter will also co-sponsor a book sign- ing for Professor George Edwards’ pioneering new book entitled LL.M. Roadmap: An Interna- tional Student’s Guide to U.S. Law School Pro- grams. Of note to the ILSA community, Edwards, professor at the IU School of Law, is donating all his personal profits from the publication of this particular book to the International Law Students Association. The book signing will be followed by a public event commemorating International Hu- man Rights Day.
Like many of the ILSA Chapters around the world, our Chapter’s Jessup Moot Court Team is busy preparing for the competition next spring. By providing the necessary administrative de- tails and overseeing the selection of a team, the ILS hopes to provide Indiana University School of Law—Indianapolis with another valuable tool in teaching international law.
This is just a brief overview of some of the many things happening with Indiana School of Law-Indianapolis’ ILS chapter. We look forward to reading more about what our fellow chapters are doing and hope to meet many of you in the practice of international law!
