This summer school offers participants the opportunity to follow an intensive programme of university-level study in international human rights law within in the beautiful surroundings of New College, Ox- ford. The programme was established by the University of Oxford and George Washington University Law School in 1995.
Open to all students enrolled (or graduated from) an ABA approved law school. We plan many High Table dinners and special events, and weekends are left open to encourage travel. Applications may be made online and require a $400 deposit, plus a letter of good standing from the dean of your law school.
Students study international law and politics at the Hertford College at Oxford Univer- sity, the world’s oldest English-speaking university. The Summer Program in Oxford is sponsored by the Robertson School of Government.(Note: the Summer Program in Oxford is not approved for School of Law course credit by the ABA.)
An exceptional opportunity for individuals to study at Oxford, our program offers an in- depth exploration of an area of law in a tuto- rial setting. Conceived at Oxford, the unique tutorial method allows the student personal discussion time with his or her professor.

This program allows students to earn five credit hours by taking one course taught by an SMU law professor and one tutorial taught by an Oxford tutor. Participants live and attend classes in University College, Oxford. In recent years, 32 to 36 students have been accepted into the program. While preference is given to SMU students, other law students are welcome to apply.
As the oldest ongoing program in Oxford sponsored by a U.S. law school, students are provided with a unique opportunity to study comparative law and the history of the com- mon law and its institutions in their original setting. An organized trip to the Inns of Court and the Royal Courts of Justice in London and an evening of Shakespeare at Stratford are included.
