installation this year at the Aquaduct Racetrack, New York, which is a showcase opportunity for JCM Global alongside OEMs including Bally, IGT and SPIELO. Mr. Nieman also revealed that there's to be another (yet to be disclosed) major installation next year too.

The adaptability of the iVIZION is one of the major reasons for its success according to Mr. Nieman. “Flexibility is a key issue in the marketplace right now, that and the belief in our products that’s a legacy from the enormous success of the WBA, our classic workhorse validator, of which there is a staggering number on the market. However, with a finite memory, we saw the end of life for the WBA and the transition to the UBA six years ago with the opening of the Wynn casino in Vegas. OEMs and operators have confidence that we will now handle the transition to the iVIZION equally adeptly. The business has changed, with systems playing an increasingly important role. You have to ask the operators and OEMs where they want to go, as much as where they need to go, which is not the same thing. We have to make products that work in their environments on an operator-by-operator level.”

Note recycling is the hot product in Europe right now, with the AWP market

defined by the needs of operators to avoid coin and note starvation. JCM has a team of engineers sited in Dusseldorf working on products from the VegaRC to the UBARC and the newest iProRC, an evolutionary product that takes the UBA to a higher level of validation, with benefits such as anti-threading technology, established in the UBA. “We continue to develop our product range by working in concert with operators, who consider us their technology partners,” described Mr. Nieman. “Products such as iVIZION were born from those meetings. It’s an important company standpoint that our Japanese management team are prepared to head down all these avenues, despite the fact that some are inevitably blind alleys. I thinks it’s one of the true advantages JCM delivers to OEMs and operators. It’s not a corporate approach, it’s a mutual one.”

Despite the fact that validation is no longer the push-thru industry it once was, with validation companies selling to the end user as much as to the OEMs, JCM has maintained its first-person contact with all the elements in the chain. “Harrahs know that the person down on his knee on their floor is a JCM employee,” underlined Mr. Nieman. “There is an inherent filter involved when a third-party’s interpreting what has

happened in the field. We know that we hear about issues quicker and more completely by dealing with them ourselves. That's the culture of JCM. We licence on a direct basis, as we want to hear from the customer directly. That's just our way.”

Aside from the aforementioned products on the JCM stand at G2E, a surprising addition was the mobile wager wall, part of another alliance, this time with Japanese company, Techfirm, a specialist in mobile phone wagering. The JCM solution uses the smartphone, now residing in practically everyone's pocket, as a mobile wallet. Techfirm is a leading company in this area in Japan with already well established IP in this burgeoning new validation sector.

“While we don’t ever see the gaming industry abandoning cash, ticket migration has proved that the industry will accept new payment systems, while the advantage of mobile wagering is one of ease and convenience,” stated Mr. Nieman. “We are positioning ourselves for a future in which government issued pieces of paper will not be the most convenient means of payment.” Whatever the future holds for currency validation, JCM Global is positioned to stay right at the heart of gaming development.
