WMS Gaming changed the gaming rulebook at G2E with its latest portfolio of slot machine titles


Asked repeatedly to name the “No.1 product of the G2E Las Vegas exhibition,” the complicated answer is that playing a slot machine has become part of a much wider experience. In fact, the slot element is increasingly become the enabler that brings everything together, but it's not the focus of attention. No longer is it a question about 'time on device,' this is time playing your favourite board game, Battleships and Clue, or flying a magic carpet on an interactive surround sound chair that pivots and shifts in sync with the ride. This is about massive fun.


This time last year G3 was invited into WMS Gaming's 'Inner Sanctum' at G2E, for a sneak peek of Clue, Battleships and Aladdin, alongside Journey to Oz, the latest in WMS' massively successful

Sensory Immersion Wizard of Oz series. In just 12 months these high concept games have progressed from R&D to deployable titles (Journey to Oz was playable at the Palazzo Hotel and Casino during G2E). “We have significantly cut the time to floor for our latest releases,” explained WMS Gaming's Candace Lucas. “Games shown in the Inner Sanctum last year have sped through development and regulatory approvals as we respond to the wonderful customer reaction these games received. Games such as Clue incorporate all the elements of the original board game; all the characters, rooms and weapons of choice have been woven into this title with the help of constant feedback from operators that have tweaked the game to make it floor-ready.”


This year marks the latest version of the ergonomic Bluebird cabinet, called Bluebird xD and a collection of games on CPU-NXT3, the third generation of WMS’


high-definition video platform. Engaging the player was the theme of the WMS stand at G2E, where it was practically impossible to disengage players from machines at the stand. Journey to Oz was one of the standout titles, a game that is a perfect marriage of graphics, sounds and interactive bonuses and themed events that's destined to be an international hit. Very different gameplay and graphics greet players on Spartacus - Gladiator of Rome, a title with distinctive graphical realism adding to its five reel play that benefits from WMS' Colossal Reels concept, in which two sets of reels, one large and one small, sees wild symbols transferring between each reel set.


Mechanical reels enjoyed a large share of the booth in Vegas, with many of last year's headline video titles such as Press Your Luck, now available as three reel mechanicals. “We see the cross-over of players from video who still won’t accept three reel games, but who enjoy five reel mechanical games helped by our transmissive technology,” described Ms.
