Shown on the stand in Vegas, Cantinflas is a title themed around the Mexican movie star of the same name, with whom international audiences will be familiar from the film Around the World in 80 days, starring David Niven, in which he played the role of Passepartout. “It is the first time that a Latin American star has appeared as the central character in a slot machine theme,” explained Merkur Gaming's Peter Amling. “We have had great feedback from visitors at the show, with a real emotional link established between players and operators with this particular game.”

“As a single company we can offer the complete portfolio. We have a range of proven casino, AWP and VLT machines and content from established markets. Germany is a very important market, but the potential influences from government could have a profound detrimental effect on the market,” stated Mr. Amling. “It is there important to develop the international side to our business, to gain GLI approvals, to take Merkur Gaming to the next level as distributor/ manufacturer/operator and create a true successor to Atronic.

The Gauselmann Group has combined its subsidiaries, Merkur Casino and Merkur Gaming into one single entity

Convergence has become a watchword for the gaming industry over the course of 2011, so much so that the merging together of two divisions within the Gauselmann Group, Merkur Gaming and Merkur Casino, is a logical, if not overdue, event. The combination of the two sides of the business, operations and gaming, has been a wildly successful formula for the Group's Austrian rival, Novomatic, with the two elements forming a natural relationship on the international market.

Speaking to the heads of Merkur Gaming at the G2E show in Las Vegas, Peter Amling and Rolf Falke, the combined strength of Merkur Gaming and Merkur Casino underlines its international ambitions following the swallowing up of Atronic International (the Gauselmann Group's former international casino

“We have a large library of very successful games and experience from every level of gaming development. We see a convergence in the type of machines offered at the street level, VLT, server-based and casino level, with almost identical cabinets and games across each of these once very individual sectors,” described Mr. Amling.

At the show in Las Vegas, Merkur Gaming demonstrated its first linked gaming system with a jackpot designed to appeal to the South American market. “We are showing customers a different offer, showing them exactly what we can achieve from a variety of games, cabinets, technology and German manufacturing excellence,” explained Merkur Gaming’s Rolf Falke. “We are taking the established Merkur Sun brand into new markets who recognise this symbol of quality. We are in discussions with local partners in regards to operations, seeking to establish locations in the same manner as our European operations, by building a local team with local knowledge of the market. Operations enable you to know your client intimately, to understand them and create the right types of games for them.”
