I found coming to Sixth Form a refreshing change from school. You get a lot more independence and responsibility; you get treated more like an adult. I really enjoyed getting to pick the subjects I wanted to do and there are plenty to choose from! The courses are more in depth than at school so they are really interesting. You also get the opportunity to meet lots of like-minded friends.
You get a lot of extra opportunities to study things you’re interested in at College through doing an X Factor of your choice every week. It’s a great way to gain experience in something you may want to do in later life. There are many choices to pick from for your X Factor so there will defi nitely be something that interests you. I’m currently doing voluntary work and I am really enjoying it!
There is always lots of help and support around college if you need it. You will have a Guidance Support Tutor, who you meet twice every week, to help you during your time at College. They are very helpful, answering any questions you have and providing you with extra information when needed. You get free periods when you are at College. These periods are a really useful time to catch up with any work from lessons, which helps to reduce the time you spend doing work at home.
The library has many useful books and computers to help you with your studies. There is a canteen at College where you can meet your friends and get some lunch together!
College holds events throughout the year to help raise money for charity, such as Rag Week. There are also events for Children in Need and Comic Relief, where people dress up to raise money. This year there was a dance off and singing competition that anyone can get involved in. College parties are also organised throughout the year by the Students Union.
There are lots of options open to you after Sixth Form. I am hoping to go to university when I have fi nished my studies here.
I really enjoy studying at Scarborough Sixth Form College; it’s a great experience, you get to make lots of new friends and gain your independence. I’d recommend it to anyone!
