History at AS and Advanced Level involves the study of the past of both Europe and Britain. You can choose to study either Early Modern History, which covers the late fi fteenth, sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, or Modern History, which involves studying aspects of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
In these courses you will study in a variety of ways, including lectures, discussions, group-work, individual research and the use of dvds and computers. The study of History is immensely stimulating and enjoyable in its own right, but there is also a big emphasis on the development of transferable skills, which both universities and employers value highly. Career opportunities are many and varied, including teaching, librarianship, archive work, law, management and archaeology.
