This course will provide you with the foundation for entry into the rapidly expanding travel industry. The BTEC Travel and Tourism Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels while the BTEC Diploma is equivalent to 2 A levels. Both qualifi cations are highly regarded by universities and the Travel and Tourism industry. As part of the course you will study a variety of destinations both in the UK and worldwide and gain skills in areas such as Customer Service, Event Management and Hospitality. Specialist units studied include Resort Representatives, and Entertainment for Holidaymakers. Students benefi t from a designated Travel and Tourism room with IT suite.


The course allows you to develop important skills such as preparing and delivering presentations, working in a team and organising events. You will gain an exposure to real aspects of the Travel and Tourism industry which will be enhanced through residential trips, visits and talks by guest speakers. Travel and Tourism can be studied as a degree on its own or combined with other subjects such as event management, marketing, hospitality or sport.





I chose Travel and Tourism because I wanted to learn something new where I could gain experience and do a subject that could give me a wide variety of skills. In Travel and Tourism the tutors are really friendly and they help with anything if they can.

55 TRAVEL & tourism


The BTEC Extended Certifi cate in Travel and Tourism is equivalent in value to two GCSEs. The course aims to give you a practical understanding of the rapidly expanding Travel and Tourism industry.


You will study six units which include the UK Tourism Sector, World Travel and Understanding Customer Service. These


are assessed by coursework and practical tasks such as presentations and role plays. There is no formal written examination for this course. This qualifi cation will provide an ideal route to Level 3 courses (such as Level 3 BTEC Travel and Tourism) or to enter employment (especially in the Tourism Sector).
