Students take a well earned break on their Gold Expedition in the Lake District, Spring 2011.

Can’t bear to be parted from your phone?

Then don’t attempt the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award because on your expedition you will have to manage without it!

If you think its all rucksacks, camping and blisters, well you would be right, but there is much more to it, which is why it’s held in such high regard by both universities and employers; completing all 5 sections is a signifi cant challenge. No previous experience is necessary; you don’t have to have done Bronze or Silver.

Our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Unit meets once a week and is one of the largest in the North East with over 100 students striving to complete their Gold awards.

Most students fi nd by attending other X Factor activities they can complete the award in 18 months, but we will help you after you leave college too; you’ve got until you are 25.

Students do lots of different activities, ranging from circus skills to IT, swimming to deaf-signing and Community Sports leader qualifi cations to serving in the Oxfam shop. You choose your programme and tailor it to suit you and your time commitments.

You can sign up for Duke of Edinburgh at enrolment. 11
