Psychology is fascinating because it explains the way people think and behave.


Psychology is the scientifi c study of the mind and behaviour; including how people think and interact with others. You will study many aspects of behaviour including memory, obedience, mental illness, crime and health psychology.

The AS course focuses on 15 studies from 5 approaches. You will also develop practical skills in learning how to conduct your own investigation into human behaviour. Your knowledge will be tested in 2 exams.


The A2 course requires a detailed study of two areas: Forensic Psychology and Health/Clinical Psychology. The last topic will take a synoptic view across the approaches, issues and debates, as well as Research Methods. You will be assessed in 2 separate examinations, one in February and one in June.


Psychology is demanding and requires lots of reading, written work and some statistical analysis. Many of our students study psychology at university which can lead to careers in Education, Research, Police, Social Services and Healthcare. To study psychology at university it is often advised that you also study a science at A level.


The GCSE will give you an excellent knowledge of psychology and it will be good preparation for you if you wish to carry on to study the A level.
