The emphasis of the course is on developing your own ideas and creativity with constant reference to contemporary art practice. We encourage you to record your photographic and drawing ideas in sketchbooks to support a wider range of experimental outcomes and development ideas. Many students gravitate towards the art studios in their own time to continue their work in a supportive, highly creative and very happy environment.
The fi rst unit of the AS course is intended to introduce you to a range of different art processes and materials. The theme for the second unit is set by the exam board and takes the form of a title and a set of starting-points. It is hard work, but fun!
It is necessary to have GCSE grade C in either Art, Textiles or a related subject. Students may take more than one AS level in the Art department – Art and Design/ Textiles and Fashion / Graphic Communication
Specifi c Course requirements: GCSE Art grade C or above OR a suitable Art portfolio.
Art is exciting. You can explore and experience a variety of mediums, making it very interesting.
