What do geologists do? They study and attempt to predict earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides. They fi nd and evaluate water, mineral, and energy resources. They study the evolution of life on earth and date key events. They examine mass extinction and environmental change and predict the impact of human activities. They educate the public (young and old) through the media, museum presentations, and teaching.

Geology students are widely appreciated for their ability to draw conclusions from incomplete data. They also show an awareness of the wider environment and, having studied an applied science, a pragmatic and practical approach to solving problems.
