Woodlands Nursery
Some of the Rising 5’s Group went on a visit to Kelvingrove Art Gallery for a spring walk. We were met by the park ranger who explained we would be exploring Kelvingorve Park to look at the local fl owers and wildlife.
The children had a great time spotting birds, ducks, squirrels and frogs and as we walked through the park they enjoyed counting how many different colours of fl owers were in the gardens.
By the time you read this we will be back in the Scout Hall, which has been given a complete make-over after the damage suffered during the severe winter weather. We are excited about moving back as this will enable us to offer a much wider range of activities with more scope for all types of play.
To end our visit the park ranger showed the children different insects, these included tadpoles, butterfl ies and dragonfl ies. A fun day out was had by all.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have helped us over the past few months when we were ‘homeless’. First of all the Scouts for their continued support and for keeping us up to date with the progress of the renovations, St Fillan’s Church, the Secretary and Committee of Kilmacolm Bowling Club, Julie, Elsie and the staff at KNCC, Susan Dobson our Care Commission offi cer, whose help and guidance has been invaluable and last, but not least, our parents and children who have been understanding and patient throughout.
We are delighted to welcome on-board our new member of staff, Lynn Fulton, who is already a favourite with the children.
We are now looking forward to our new session in August and are enrolling now.
Providing we have suffi cient numbers, we will be running an all-day club (8am - 6pm) throughout the school holidays and will offer all day, morning or afternoon sessions.
We are confi dent that our service will continue to go from strength to strength giving our children the best possible care.
local sports Bonking Bikers!
Our team of fi ve leisure cyclists from Quarriers Village - Freda, Graham and Alistair Robertson and Campbell and Midge McLundie (The Bonking Bikers!) - has been out training for our 1,050 mile cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) in the summer. With tremendous weather from April into May we had no excuses and enjoyed some great cycling amongst the superb Scottish scenery!
As well as the personal challenge, we hope to raise a healthy sum for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (
http://www.nras.org.uk), whose goal is ‘a better life for people living with rheumatoid arthritis’. NRAS seeks to achieve this by:
• Providing information, education, support and advocacy • Raising public and government awareness of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) • Campaigning for equity of access to best treatment and care
• Facilitating the networking of people with RA and encouraging self-help
As part of our fundraising activity the Bonking Bikers held a social night in Quarriers Village: a disco interspersed with ceilidh music organised by Steve Roberts, an auction and raffl e, and some nourishment. Many thanks to Johnstone Wheelers who provided ‘rolling roads’ so that those present could race Lance Armstrong, Winehouse for providing liquid sustenance, and Quarriers for provision of the hall. NRAS president Ailsa Bosworth kindly travelled up from the south for the evening to show her support for the venture. Thank you once again to all our friends and acquaintances who made it along.
The Bonking Bikers are very grateful to supportive friends and the following businesses for donating auction and raffl e prizes: Scott-Moncrieff, Ranfurly Castle Golf Club, Amaretto, The Weir, Cail Bruich West, Glasgow Warriors, Finlaystone Country Estate, Ingliston Equestrian Centre, Shimla Cottage, Pieri’s, Winehouse, Gibb Stuart, Wilson Davis Art Gallery, St Mirren FC, Cheethams Accountants and Barr Newsagents. In addition our sponsorship has been increased with generous cheques to NRAS from Clark Gillone Financial Advisers, Morgan Sindall Construction Group and Teknek Ltd.
Finally, we would like to thank all those who have sponsored us directly via our web site. If you would like to add your support, please visit
