Old Library Building
The old Community Centre and Library building has been taken off the market and, in order not to detract from the appearance of the village, its exterior is being painted at a cost of £3000.
The adjacent shop and the garage have had a lease extension of one year.

kilmacolm & quarriers Kilmacolm New Library Opening
Earlier this Spring we were eagerly anticipating announcing the opening date of our brand new Community Library in Kilmacolm, however life rarely goes to plan and we were hit with the news that a plumbing component in the roof space had failed allowing water to pour into the building for a couple of hours. When we arrived on site the next morning it was to fi nd a very sorry sight with the beautiful American Oak fl ooring starting to lift and split and water dripping from the ceiling and down the walls. Still that was several weeks ago and since then the fl ooring has been removed and the building successfully dried out, repairs were made and at the beginning of April a brand new fl oor was laid and the building now looks as good as new. A fi nal meeting with the interior designers was held and the Library is currently being fi tted out. Judging by the number of faces at the window this has not gone unnoticed and the new Library will be open for business at 10:00 on Tuesday, May 31.
The old School Board building has been converted to a very high standard with a light and airy feel thanks to the feature gable end window and vaulted ceiling. With eleven public access PC’s, the library can help you get the most from the internet and we will now be in a position to offer a whole range of computer based classes further enhanced by an interactive whiteboard situated in the Learning Zone. To further enhance the library experience the new building offers free Wi-Fi access allowing users to access the web from their own laptop. Kids will love the dedicated children’s area where they can participate in our popular Book Bug sessions and enjoy the colourful furnishings. There’s even a coffee machine so you can just sit back and relax completely. Wheelchair users can benefi t from an easy access height adjustable computer workstation and adapted WC. An induction loop system has also been installed to benefi t the hard of hearing and parents are provided for with changing facilities for babies. Inverclyde Council have been buying new titles for many months in preparation for the opening and the majority of the new library’s stock will be brand new.
Crime writer Alex Gray has agreed to host an author event to celebrate the opening on the evening of Thursday June 9 and further details and tickets will be available from the library.
The current library will close its doors to the public at 7.00 pm on Thursday, May 26 and there will be no library service over that weekend to allow us to move and commission the new building.
After such a long wait we hope you’ll come along and take full advantage of the new facilities on offer.
