Houston Community Nursery

May was Eco month so we have been using recycled materials in all the play areas and have been making our own games and toys from recycled card, paper and plastic. We have started work on our eco greenhouse made from plastic bottles; let’s hope our tomato plants enjoy their new home. We have also been making briquettes from recycled paper which has been a very messy and fun process; we are now hoping for good weather so we can use the bricks to light the barbecue.

This month we also had a brilliant time visiting the RSNO who were having a special concert for nursery children. We were amazed by all the instruments we seen and heard and enjoyed the lovely music they played for us especially a very rousing rendition of The William Tell Overture where we pretended we were on horses.

Kilbarchan Primary Promotes Safe Cycling

Pupils in Primary 6 have been learning how to be responsible citizens on the road. Children are taking part in an intensive Cycling Profi ciency Programme which will teach them the Highway Code as well as how to safely travel on the main roads. At the end of the programme, pupils will be tested on their profi ciency. Liz Sommerville, Head Teacher said “This is a great experience for children. We have cycling racks in school and we hope this programme will encourage more pupils to cycle to school”.

BOW Primary

As it’s now the summer term, there are lots of exciting things happening in Bridge Of Weir Primary School. Our Primary seven pupils have left their school books behind and headed off for a week full of fun and adventure at Ardentinny. Primary one are learning how to be good circus clowns for their circus project. Juggling and tight rope walking is always good fun!

The whole school are now preparing for Sports day, with training underway at all stages.

Our school participated with great success in the SSAA Primary Schools’ Cross Country Championships. At this event on Saturday 23rd April in Kirkcaldy, Rebecca Craig P7 pupil at Bridge of Weir Primary School became overall and Scottish Champion. Rebecca was the only girl competitor to run the course in under 6 minutes (5 mins 57 secs). Rebecca came fi rst along with Rona Tyler, who was 2nd and Kerry MacAngus who was 3rd - making the girls 1st in the p7 girls team event, ensuring the girls came fi rst overall, which I believe may be unprecedented for one school to provide the fi rst three in any of these races. So well done to them and their coaching team! Andrew MacAngus came 1st in the p6 individual boys event. A huge well done to all the children who took part. The children who paricipated were:

P6 Girls Maisie Huey, Sally Crawford, Sophie Carroll. P6 Boys Andrew MacAngus, James Toal, Ruaridh Mcvie, Baily Edmonson. P7 Girls Rebecca Craig, Rona Tyler, Kerry MacAngus, Rebecca Gale and P7 Boys Andrew Maclean, Danny Mulholland, Sam Cole, Jack Bradley, Matthew McGhee. The pupils and staff were also delighted when all their hard word in their ECO School project paid off and we successfully gained our second Green Flag.
