It may be a distant memory already, but Playgroup enjoyed some Royal Wedding Celebrations with our two Princesses dressing

up and getting into the mood. We also made celebratory fairy cakes in red, white and blue icing plus had fun making a wedding cake at the playdough table. What vivid imaginations young children have!

Playgroup provides diverse role-play materials like the farm,

zoo, house, shop and dress up to name a few which all encourage imagination and conversation and a chance to perform and be somebody different for a while.

By the time you read this, we’ll have made souvenir tea-towels featuring our handprints to remind us of early friendships, had our annual Group Photo, had a visit from Road Safety and borrowed some topical resources from the Council plus practised for Sports Day so it’s a busy term!

We are also holding an Open Morning on Thursday 9th June from 9.45am – 11.15am so if your child is approaching 2.5yrs or around 3, why not pop in and see what we can offer? Any combination of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday morning can work with names now being taken for August. We are SCSWIS r egister ed (f o r mer l y the

Care

Commission), with committed and experienced staff who are well-qualified

and approved by the Scottish Social Services Council.

Remember we also run a Toddler Group every Wednesday morning from 10am - 11.30am for all children from birth to 3. We’re lucky to have lots of great toys for the children to play with as well as a separate baby corner. Call Suzy on 07719 544 455 for more info. Many thanks to all the families and friends who supported our recent Ragbag, Smarties and Easter events.

Young Author Competition

Johnstone Rotary Club has recently held its annual Young Author competition and the presentation of prizes took place on 21st April. As well as the prize-winners, we were delighted to welcome some of the teachers and family members. We would like to thank the teachers from all the local schools for their efforts and co-operation in staging this event. These Young Achiever competitions invariably attract entries of a high standard and this was no exception, with the judges fi nding it exceedingly diffi cult to reach their decision. Congratulations to all who entered. Thanks also to President, Peter Stromberg, who undertook the challenging task of organizing this very successful competition.

The winners in our Young Author competition this year were:-

Under 16 - First Prize - “Diary of an Onlooker” by Grant Allison of St Benedict’s High School. Second Prize - “I See You” by Louise Quigley of Linwood High School.

Over 16 - First Prize - “Broken Shields” by Luke Simpson of Gryffe High School. Second Prize – “The Pink Umbrella” by Kirsty McGowan of Linwood High School.

Collin Care Limited is delighted to have concluded the purchase of Rivendale Nursery in Bridge of Weir and is looking forward to building relationships within the village.

Collin Care is a family business, run jointly by Jean, Crawford and Douglas Collin, who between them have 25 years experience in Nurseries, accounts and HR. On acquiring Rivendale, whilst already a recognised quality Nursery, we could see opportunities for improvement and have put together a building and maintenance program, commencing with immediate effect. We are delighted to say that the staff, who already have a great relationship with parents and children within the Nursery, will all be staying with us and we shall be introducing a new training plan to help them progress in their careers. Further, to ensure all standards are met, we will be working closely with “Social Care and Social Work Improvement in Scotland” (SCSWIS) and East Renfrewshire Council.

We are planning an open fun-day sometime soon, to meet as many friends and neighbours as we can; the date will be advertised as soon as we have it confi rmed.

In the meantime, Rivendale Nursery is enrolling now for the new term and would like to invite any parents who are interested in viewing the nursery to contact Gillian or Alison on 01505 610611.
