We had great excitement with the Royal Duchal Garden Party with the gathering of many princesses and princes of the future, improvising with hula hoops for wedding rings, while surrounded by the new beautiful Duchal Garden.

Preparations are well under way for the annual Sports day, fi ngers crossed the weather holds out to give all our budding Olympians a chance to show off their athletic ability!!!

We had a great trip to visit “Peter’s Railway” in Quarriers, thanks to Chris and Katrina Vine. The children had great fun waiting at the platform for the train and having countless rides on such a great steam train, re-living the tales of the fabulous books!!

A mass of masterpieces have been entered for the Kilmacolm Show, it is amazing what can be created out of an egg box, and how messy you can be while doing fi nger painting – all great fun!!

If you would like to come and visit the Nursery and meet the teachers please contact Head Teacher Jean McCarthy on: Tel. 874358. Also visit our website at: www. duchal.com to keep up to date with all the latest news.

Kilbarchan Community Nursery

The pre-school children had a busy time in May and enjoyed their outing to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s Monster Music at the Henry Wood Hall.

They have also been spending time back and forth at the Primary School meeting their future teacher and getting to know their P6 First Friends who visited them at the nursery to ensure a smooth transition into school.

June is gearing up to be another fun fi lled month with lots on before

the

Summer break. The children have chosen the theme for their Lilias Day Float, and together with staff and parents, have worked hard making the decorations for the day. A special thank you to Catherine for leading the preparations.

On 12th June the Nursery will be holding its annual fundraising Garden Party – an event for all the family. We are hoping for a warm, sunny day to help make it a resounding success.

To round up all the excitement, the children will be looking forward to their big “summer outing” to the Heads of Ayr on 14th June.

Please remember to continue to drop off empty and clean 2L plastic bottles to help us build our Greenhouse. We still need more, so please keep on donating.

The Nursery is open from 8am till 5.45pm and caters for a maximum of 40 children aged three to fi ve years old at any one time. In addition to fl exible government funded places, the Nursery offers extended hours at breakfast, lunch and late sessions. The breakfast club also caters for a limited number of Kilbarchan Primary School children. For more information contact Margery Cameron Tel 01505 704839 or email margery@kilbarchancommunitynursery.org.uk

It’s a very busy summer term so far. The children have been practising for Sports Day on Wednesday 25th May and are getting excited about their summer outing

to Lunderston Bay, where they will be exploring the rock pools with the help of the Rangers from Clyde Muirshiel.

As part of their health and hygiene topic, the children are going to have a special visit from the Dental Hygienist and Doctor Noreen. This will encourage them with brushing their teeth properly, health eating and the importance of exercise.

“Dinosaur Tails, Tracks and Trails” was the theme of Langbank Playgroup’s recent trip to Kelvingrove Museum. This was an interactive morning learning about fossils, hunting down dinosaurs in the museum with our guide and then digging in a sandbox to see

what fossils we could uncover. The dinosaur shaped sandwiches were also a great success!

This term we welcome Mrs Janet Colston as a Temporary Playleader and thank Mrs Fiona Dennis for her hard work and contributions over the last two years and wish her well in the move south.

We will be thinking about moving up to school with some visits from the local Primary plus training hard for Sports Day and hoping for more dry days for outside play.
