Ideal Home Show Queen’s Representative Talks To Rotary

It was the next best thing to a royal visit when Guy Clark came along to a recent meeting of Gryffe Valley Rotary club. Guy is the Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire and as such is the Queen’s representative in our area. He talked about his role and experiences.

In 2007, a simple 2 line letter from Tony Blair invited him to become Lord Lieutenant (LL) of Renfrewshire, with very little in the way of guidance as to what the job entailed! Renfrewshire in this context comprises Old Renfrewshire ie the area now covered by Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire.

Guy gets involved in many ways with a wide range of organisations, churches, charities and the like – for example he is the Honorary President of the Board of Governors of St Columba’s school. He said that he was privileged to meet a huge range of worthy people and was frequently humbled by some the events he attended.

Some members may have been disappointed that a few spare honours and garden party tickets were not available at the end of the meeting, but all were hugely informed and entertained by Guy’s fascinating insight into a world and a role that few of us experience or have even contemplated. The photo shows Guy on the left with Mike Pepper who introduced him.
