RNIB Talking Book Service

Johnstone Rotary Club welcomed Elma Magowan, from the Royal National Institute of Blind People in Scotland, who came along to explain some of the support available to the 200,000 blind and partially sighted people in Scotland. Elma’s main topic was the RNIB’s Talking Book Service which offers over 18,000 high quality audio books, paid for by annual subscription and delivered postage-free direct to your door. There are several types of Talking Book Players and Elma brought with her a model known as a Daisy Player, this she demonstrated by setting us an informal quiz in which we had to identify various well known readers including Sir David Attenborough, Joanna Lumley and Richard Wilson. This was

a very professional talk. which was much appreciated.

Erskine Bikers Meet ....again

The veterans’ charity Erskine are looking forward to welcoming Bikers from far and wide to the 4th Erskine Bikers Meet to be held on Sunday 29th May in the grounds of the Erskine Estate in Bishopton. Over 1,000 bikers on bikes of all shapes, sizes and makes are expected to make the journey to Erskine to join in the fun packed afternoon. With each biker donating £5 to Erskine this is proving to be one of the fundraising highlights of the charity’s year.

From 1pm to 5pm there will be something for everyone. Children can enjoy bouncy castles and aqua balls and for the adults there will be quad bikes and live rock bands. A variety of stalls including home baking, sweeties and a tombola will be on hand. An ice cream van, BBQs and tea/coffee on sale ensures every need is catered for.

Erskine Fundraiser Linda O’Malley said: “We are delighted to once again be hosting The Erskine Bikers Meet, every year we welcome bikers from as far away as Yorkshire. We are all keeping our fi ngers crossed for good weather as that would be the icing on the cake.”

Erskine Chief Executive Major Jim Panton said: “The Erskine Bikers Meet is wonderful way for people to support Erskine and enjoy themselves at the same time. Every single penny raised from the afternoon goes towards the care of our veterans. Why not come along and join in the fun?”
