across Europe access is possible through wi-fi connections and through 3G ‘phone networks. But there will probably always be areas where neither of these is available and so, if reliable Internet access is important, no matter where you are, a 2-way satellite
system may well be your best choice.

Crystop: the system the professionals use
From a mechanical and electronic point of view, we reckon that Crystop’s is by far the best of the low-cost, fully automatic Internet via satellite systems. It’s the only one designed for leisure use that is robust enough to be used for professional applications too and these systems are in use by local government and utilities companies in various parts of the U.K. We’ve tried other models but they just don’t compare to this one.
Crystop systems can be set up for Internet access only or for both Internet and TV. It’s also possible to use the system with VOIP services such as Skype, enabling free or cheap ‘phone calls to anywhere in the world. See our website for more details.

IPcopter: TV + Internet at a lower price than TV alone! As the original developer of Internet via satellite for non-professional use in Europe, you’d expect IPcopter to know something about the subject. As well as being a leading service provider, they’ve brought their knowledge and technical expertise to bear and have produced this system which costs less than many television-only satellite set-ups.
Although the cost is almost half that of its nearest rival, Internet performance is not affected in any way. The main difference between this and other systems is that, before selecting auto search, the dish must be manually pointed in a roughly south-easterly direction, +/- 65°. When that’s been done, the automatic search takes over and the system locates and locks on to the satellite within minutes.

Internet service options
As at February 2011, whichever low-cost Internet satellite you have, there are just two service providers to choose from: IPcopter and Astra2Connect. Between them they offer a wide range of options to suit most requirements, from 365 day per year high-speed access to standard-speed packages with just 40 or 100 days usage spread out over two years.
Because the different providers use different satellites (Hellassat for IPcopter and Astra 3 for Astra2Connect) coverage across Europe varies too. Some systems that we’ve tried won’t work in Scotland or parts of Ireland and others aren’t so good in southern Spain. It can be tricky to choose the right system but it’s essential to get this right if you’re to get the best from your Internet system. RoadPro works closely with both providers and can help you to calculate which combination of equipment and service package is most efficient and most economic for you. You can get all the information on pricing and packages from our website.
