SOLAR POWER (Continued from previous page)

If you're in Spain and there are 10 hours of bright sunshine every day, a 75W mono-crystalline panel would probably be able to provide enough energy to meet that daily

requirement. However, the angle of the panel to the sun, shadows, clouds and ambient temperature can all significantly reduce the power supplied by the panel. In this situation, we would recommend an 85W or 100W panel. You can’t have too much power available but it’s easy to have too little.

Especially on boats, a big panel in a frame may not be practical and solar panels are available which are not only slightly flexible but tough enough to be walked on.

Completely flexible models are available too which can be used on kayaks and where other panels aren’t suitable. Although they can’t produce as much energy as rigid models of a similar size, they are quite capable of providing enough to

run portable electronic devices such as ‘phones, GPS navigation and even laptop computers.

The hotter a solar panel gets, the less efficient it becomes at producing electricity. For this reason, always choose a panel When you install a solar power system, it’s always best to which has mounting facilities which allows air to circulate freely and keep the panel cool.

check that your batteries are compatible. The panel’s

regulator (which ensures that the batteries are charged correctly) must be suitable too.

Because of the way solar panels are constructed, a shadow falling on one cell can drastically reduce the power being supplied by the other cells. For this reason, it’s often a good idea to get two panels positioned a few feet apart but wired

together. Then, if one panel is in shade, the other can continue to function at full capacity.

Solar power is not really complicated but, to make sure that you get what you really need, we always recommend spending some time working looking at the various options. Contact us if you need more advice.

EVOLUTION ADJUSTABLE SOLAR PANEL SYSTEMS “2 or 3 times as efficient as a flat panel the same size”*

A solar panel which is pointed towards the sun will generate several times more electricity than one which is simply laid flat. Our adjustable panel takes advantage of this and can be raised and turned towards the sun from inside a vehicle or boat.

Available in two sizes - 50W & 60W, one of these units will provide more electrical energy than a 130W panel laid flat as well as taking up considerably less space.

PWR SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS

PWR solar products are competitively priced and high quality. Solar panels are poly-crystalline and are available with a range of power outputs and come both as complete kits and individual panels. We can supply both mono and poly-crystalline panels at the same price but,

because of the massive demand for solar panels, we may on occasion only be able to supply one or the other. Please check when ordering. All panels are mounted in tough aluminium frames and have a 25-year warranty against power failure.

Complete kits:

You can make life easier by buying

everything you need to install a solar panel all in one go.

Our kits comprise a panel, adhesive, 6M cable, mounting feet, 10 Amp PWM regulator and a waterproof roof-entry cable box.
